Sacred Heart Academy Bryn Mawr (SHA) seeks an experienced and dynamic Director of Athletics who will be responsible for the leadership, supervision, and coordination of the interscholastic athletics program in the Middle and Upper Schools and will work to advance the school's athletics program in accordance with its Mission, its strategic priorities, and its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The ideal candidate is a relational and collaborative leader who demonstrates creative, strategic and critical thinking, cultural competency, emotional intelligence, and a sense of humor. This is a full-time, 11-month administrative position.

The Director of Athletics will continually develop, organize, supervise, and evaluate the school's program of interscholastic athletics for the entire student body. This work will cultivate growth, learning, and engagement of students in the athletics program, support the school's enrollment, and build a proud, engaged school community. Working across and in collaboration with all departments and divisions, the Director of Athletics will ensure that the athletics program is an integral part of the school's programming and community as a whole. In addition to overseeing the school's athletic program, the Director of Athletics will teach Physical Education in the Middle School.

The Director of Athletics will work under the supervision of the Head of School and will contribute to operations and short- and long-range planning for the School. The Director of Athletics will work closely with the Health and Physical Education Department Chair, Athletic Trainer, Division Directors and other members of SHA's leadership team, students, internal and external coaches, faculty, staff, parents, athletic directors from other league schools, partners, and vendors.

Sacred Heart Academy Bryn Mawr (PA) - located in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania - is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls founded in 1865 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and lay-owned and governed since 1969. The School serves approximately 200 students in Kindergarten through Grade 12.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop, organize, supervise and evaluate the entire school's program of interscholastic athletics in the Middle and Upper Schools
  • Develop ways to elevate parent and student body engagement as well as school spirit around athletics
  • Demonstrate high professional standards and promote good sportsmanship among SHA student-athletes
  • Work in conjunction with the Business Office to fill coaching positions with experienced coaches who are properly trained in all organizational and philosophical aspects of the athletics program; ensure compliance with all SHA employment requirements
  • Schedule all athletic events and work with the governing body of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) for postseason competitions
  • Coordinate game management to ensure that the Director of Athletics or another SHA representative is in attendance at every home athletic event
  • Attend home and away postseason tournaments (Districts and States)
  • Schedule all referees/officials, scorekeepers, and timekeepers for all home games and arrange for their payment
  • Coordinate transportation for both games and practices
  • Arrange and manage school use and rentals for field and athletic facilities
  • Work closely with the Director of Facilities, Business Manager, and outside contractors to ensure proper maintenance and security of all athletic equipment, facilities, and fields
  • Work closely with the Head of School and Business Manager, or designee, to build, administer, and monitor the annual athletic budget
  • Maintain records of team and individual athletic accomplishments and submit athletic information to the Director of Marketing and Communications for school publications and/or distribution to local media
  • Collaborate with the Director of College Counseling to support student-athletes in the collegiate recruitment process
  • Work with the Director of Marketing and Communication to develop a student-athlete handbook and coaching handbook, and the implementation of the SHAthletics logo
  • Schedule seasonal sport photography for use in SHA promotional materials and coordinate team merchandise design and branding
  • Teach Physical Education in the Middle School
  • Act as the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) and Athletics Association of Catholic Academies League (AACA) school representative and represent the School at Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools (PAIS), Association of Delaware Valley Independent Schools (ADVIS), and Sacred Heart Network events
  • Serve as a representative of SHA in the public eye and promote support for the athletic program
  • Attend admission events, newly accepted students events, back-to-school nights, and other events to share information and promote the athletics program
  • Serve as an integral leader in the school community and participate fully in the daily community life of the School Specifications
    • Bachelor's degree and 5 – 7 years of coaching experience is required
    • Experience as an athletic director or assistant athletic director, as a Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA), or Certified Master Athletic Administrator (CMAA) is preferred
    • Active member of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) is preferred
    • Strong working knowledge of the sports that SHA currently offers
    • Excellent interpersonal skills to build relationships with students, coaches, colleagues, and parents
    • Demonstrated planning, scheduling, and organizational skills, with attention to detail
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to effectively collaborate, coordinate, and manage timely and strategic communication with students, parents, colleagues, coaches, other schools, and vendors
    • Demonstrated experience in problem-solving, managing multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, and working independently
    • Proficiency with technology including Google Workspace, Blackbaud, and other key information systems
    • Strong understanding of independent school education, philosophy, and practice and, a commitment to and appreciation for the value of all-girls and K-12 education
    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
