Varsity Basketball Coach

The Agnes Irwin School, an all-girls' Pre-K through 12th-grade independent school in the Philadelphia suburbs, is committed to fostering the intellectual and personal growth of girls and young women. Providing its students with a rigorous academic education, AIS is dedicated to developing each student's highest potential in intellect, character, and physical well-being.

Essential Functions:

• Assists in administering the schools interscholastic athletic programs
• Prepares, collects and maintains equipment and uniforms
• Manages the scheduling of athletic events and facilities,
• Supervises athletic practices, contests and team managers
• Perform administrative tasks in support of the Athletic Director and department events

and activities

• Coaches a minimum of one varsity season per school year
• Teach and manage Lower School students in physical education and wellness classes
• Implement current curriculum and contribute to its ongoing development

This position is responsible for the oversight and leadership of the basketball program, including but not limited to:

• Coordinate practice sessions, training programs, and offseasons workouts and camps/clinics with an emphasis on safety, athletic growth, development and competitive success
• Teach skills and strategies for competitive success
• Recruit and retain student-athletes of high athletic, academic and basketball potential to The Agnes Irwin School
• Assist student-athletes in the college recruiting process
• Supervise Assistant Coach and JV Coach; provide leadership and direction for middle school basketball coaches
• Assumes other duties as assigned by Athletic Director, Division Director and/or

Department Chair

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred)
• Previous college or high school coaching experience in basketball is required and

knowledge of college recruiting process is required

• Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills are required
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all members of School community
• Ability and desire to maintain and consistently exemplify the highest standards of

professionalism, leadership, and sportsmanship is required

• Previous teaching experience in physical education and/or health and wellness preferred
• Technology proficiency
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to effectively work with students, staff, administration, and parents
• Knowledge of appropriate safety measures to ensure the well-being of student-athletes
• CPR/First Aid certification

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• Adequate physical mobility, dexterity, strength, and endurance to perform the functions

of the position

• Sit, stand, walk and run for required periods of time
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken and/or written word
• Daily exposure to moderate noise level
