The Howard H. Baker, Jr. School of Public Policy and Public Affairs at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in the areas of public budgeting, financial management and/or public finance to begin in Aug 2025. We seek one scholar to contribute primarily to graduate and undergraduate courses in any areas of public financial administration. This search is open rank and applicants will be appointed to a rank commensurate with their research, teaching, and service record.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a doctoral degree in Public Administration or a relevant field.
Candidates must be able to contribute to teaching in a master's program in public budgeting, and financial management; provide service to the university and community; contribute to current research activities; and develop new avenues of research and teaching.
Candidates for Assistant Professor must have a clear research agenda and demonstrate strong potential for publication.
Candidates for Associate Professor should have a demonstrated record of publishing in appropriate journals, exceptional teaching, and internal and external service to their professional community. Candidates who have experience in securing and executing externally funded research are preferred, though this is not a requirement of the position.

The successful candidates will be part of a multidisciplinary hiring initiative to build the new Baker School of Public Policy and Public Affairs, the first such organization at a public institution in the State of Tennessee. We are seeking future colleagues who will help build the School and can contribute fresh ideas, a growth mindset, and interdisciplinary experience.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, the candidates will ideally contribute with their research to one of the three active research and engagement centers that are part of the School: the Center for National Security and Foreign Affairs; the Center for Energy, Transportation, and Environmental Policy; the Center for Economic and Community Development; and the Institute of American Civics.
