General Description

The Seminole County Sheriff's Office is now accepting applications for the position of ADULT PROBATION OFFICER - EMPACT.

The position of Adult Probation Officer assigned to EMPACT is responsible for professional work in monitoring court-ordered probationers, which may include high-risk offenders and/or offenders eligible for release from jail awaiting court disposition.

The schedule for this position is Monday to Friday 12:00pm to 9:00pm with an on call schedule.

Typical Duties

REFERENCE ADULT PROBATION OFFICER VIA JOB DESCRIPTIONS

  • EMPACT coverage 24/7, 365 days per year.
  • Install, monitor, and oversee all administrative aspects of the PTR/GPS program.
  • Analyze Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) electronic monitoring reports.
  • Use basic hand tools to install, uninstall and maintain offender tracking equipment.
  • Travel within Florida to homes, hospitals, jails, etc. to resolve/retrieve GPS issues.
  • Maintain inventory of all GPS related hardware at 6 different facilities.
  • May be assigned operational projects at the discretion of the Supervisors.
  • May be tasked with training responsibilities of new hires as well as presentations within the community or agency
  • Performs all other duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications

REFERENCE ADULT PROBATION OFFICER VIA JOB DESCRIPTIONS

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, or a closely related field
  • One (1) year experience in comparable training, experience and education. Direct experience with probation investigations and/or supervision/case management preferred
  • Must become NCIC/FCIC (National Crime Information Center/Florida Crime Information Center), certified via an FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation), background screening and FDLE (Florida Department of Law Enforcement), qualification and examination within six (6) months of employment
  • The position will be assigned to the John E. Polk Correction Facility and the hours will be Monday through Friday, 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Work an "on call" status to include nights, weekends and holidays on a rotation schedule
  • Internal applicants must have completed the Seminole County Sheriff's Office one (1) year probationary period
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License

Applicant must be comfortable working inside a jail, in close proximity to person(s) who were arrested for misdemeanor or felony offenses, to include home visits. This position is not sworn or certified, therefore all work will be conducted in an unarmed capacity.

Successful applicants will be required to complete and submit an entire employment application, which will be provided to the applicant by the Human Resources Division. The applicant will then submit to a thorough background investigation, which includes, but not limited to, past employment/education verification, driver license review, credit history, prior drug use history, arrest/conviction record, and computerized voice stress analysis (CVSA) testing. A certified examiner administers the CVSA with questions addressing illegal drug use and general questions of honesty and criminal history. Any dishonesty or deception on the Pre-Screen Questionnaire or Employment Application will disqualify your application.

The background investigation process may take 3-6 months depending upon the complexity of the applicant's background and position for which you've applied. Applicants selected for employment will be provided a conditional offer and required to submit to a medical examination with drug screening.

Candidates must also comply with the Agency's current Tattoo and Body Ornamentation Policy. A copy of General Order 28 - Dress and Appearance can be accessed here. An applicant's tattoos and body ornamentation must be disclosed at the time of application and will be documented as part of the agency's review process, even if otherwise meeting the Agency's policy.
