The Engineering & Products Department at MIT Open Learning is looking for a full-time Senior Technical Project Manager to join a team with big ambitions to redefine the use of technology in teaching and learning at MIT and beyond. Our digital products, including MIT Open, MITx Online, OpenCourseWare, MIT xPro, MIT Bootcamps, and MITx Residential, are used by millions of learners and educators worldwide.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Engineering & Products, this position will require strategic thinking, exceptional project management skills, and a deep understanding of software and product development. You will play a crucial role in overseeing and executing different projects and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, and product management, to drive the evolution of our user-focused digital offerings and services.

To provide some insight into the typical projects you would help manage, here are recent examples of our work.

● Aggregate all MIT online learning resources into a single platform and develop a REST API interface to support diverse use cases.
● Wind down outdated features in the MicroMasters Portal and rebuild its enrollment/marketing/profile search tool.
● Develop a prototype for an AI-driven search and chat system for OCW content utilizing LLM and RAG technologies.
● Develop the initial version of the learner analytics dashboard for MITx Online faculty and instructors.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
● Work closely with the Engineering & Products leadership team to define project scope, goals, and deliverables and develop comprehensive project plans to guide execution.
● Effectively prioritize tasks and resources to ensure timely delivery of projects, managing risks and dependencies along the way.
● Monitor project progress, maintain time frames, and provide regular status reports.
● Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status, risks, and milestones.
● Facilitate communication and collaboration across cross-functional teams, fostering a culture of transparency and accountability.
● Conduct regular project reviews and retrospectives to identify areas for improvement and drive continuous process optimization.
● Proactively identify and address potential challenges or roadblocks, working with stakeholders to develop creative solutions.

Qualifications & Skills:

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
● Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field; advanced degree or relevant certifications preferred.
● Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in technical project management, with a focus on web product development and delivery.
● Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively influence and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
● Solid technical background, with proficiency in software development processes, technologies, and tools.
● Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with a track record of successfully managing multiple projects simultaneously.
● Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive and results-driven mindset.
● Passion for technology and innovation, with a commitment to delivering exceptional user experiences.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
● Strong understanding of product management principles and methodologies, with hands-on experience in software development lifecycle management.
● Writing effectively. Most of our work happens asynchronously - being a good writer is important, especially for this position.
