This role is part of the US Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team within the second-line Enterprise Risk Management and Risk Oversight (ERM&RO) function, which provides an independent view of risks faced by American Express and is responsible for aggregating the risk profile for the Company.ERM focuses on key risk management activities, such as establishing risk management policy and governance requirements, including the company's risk appetite framework and independent oversight principles, control and compliance program, and new product governance function.

As part of the Enterprise Risk Management team, primary responsibilities for the Risk Reporting and Program Governance Manger role include, but are not limited to, the following:

Drive forward new strategies, projects, and initiatives to elevate the enterprise risk programsLead execution of the newly established Risk Memo program that documents risk exceptions for the companySupport company critical reporting and processes with though leadership in automation and controls for the Control and Compliance (C&C) Rating program and Risk Memo programsCollaborate on process optimization efforts for reporting and validation of C&C metric results in conjunction with 2nd Line subject matter expertsProduce presentations on key program outputs for senior leader executive audiences and committeesCoordinate timelines and deliverables amongst disparate program stakeholders, ensuring accountability for all program deliverablesAct as subject matter expert and liaison for the ERM programs, interacting with 2nd and 3rd Line metric owners and 1st Line Control Manager teamsSupport review and validation of key reporting to senior leaders and stakeholders as well as audit and regulatory requestsAct as a resource for the broader ERM team in terms of project and program management, process optimization, audit support, and other needs The successful candidate will be able to orchestrate the on-time delivery of key program initiatives, projects, and deliverables, coordinating amongst stakeholders across first, second, and third lines of defense.They will be able to oversee multiple workstreams simultaneously and to thrive in an environment with many ad-hoc activities. They will have a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues throughout the company, as well as work independently on specific deliverables.The ideal candidate will be able to communicate effectively with all levels of management and produce clear and concise reporting and presentations. Minimum Qualifications: 5+ years related work experience in risk management, reporting, accounting, or project management within the banking or financial services industriesProven ability to drive results and accountability for Company-wide projects, programs, or deliverables (experience in a reporting function is a plus)Excellent ability to quickly produce compelling, data driven presentations for an executive audience, including charts, graphs, graphics, etc.Superior written communication skills and attention to detail with reports and other written communicationsRisk focused and critical mindset, with the ability to identify potential process flaws and drive course correctionExcellent understanding of the control environment and principles of effective risk management, including knowledge of inherent, residual, and realized riskExperience in designing and managing reporting controlsAbility to communicate clearly and efficiently at all levels of the organizationDetail oriented, with strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skillsCritical mindset, ability to recognize and correct potential flaws in data sets and reportingAbility to work independently and drive results within given parameters, ensuring alignment with strategic perspectives and company goals Undergraduate degree in business, accounting, or similar field at a minimum; advanced degree preferred Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition.
