Are you a creative and hardworking individual who wants to do research in an interdisciplinary, fun, and supportive laboratory setting? The Nicolson lab is seeking a highly motivated, PhD (or equivalent) graduate who will support our laboratory as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Imaging at Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Department of Radiology at Harvard Medical School.

Despite significant advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, there is still a need to develop more refined, molecularly targeted approaches that can diagnose and treat cancer in a personalized manner. The Nicolson lab at Dana-Farber is interested in tackling these challenges through the development of imaging technologies and theragnostic agents for the improved detection, evaluation, and treatment of cancer. Our research spans diverse disciplines including mouse modelling, nano- radio- and synthetic- chemistry, small animal imaging (PET, MRI, fluorescence, Raman), molecular biology, radiobiology, bioengineering, optical engineering, and image processing. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic independent researcher seeking a rich intellectual, collaborative, and dynamic environment where they can advance their skills in biomedical research. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work closely with colleagues and collaborators across several fields and receive career mentoring from Dr. Nicolson

Responsibilities

  • Design, conduct, troubleshoot, and validate hypothesis-driven and hypothesis-generating experiments using in vitro and in vivo approaches.
  • Maintain detailed and understandable lab notebooks and records.
  • Mentoring research technicians and undergraduate students.
  • Interpret, discuss, and present research findings with lab members and principal investigator.
  • Perform and support experiments both independently and in partnership with other lab members and collaborators (academic and industrial).
  • Analyze experimental data meticulously, interpreting results to generate comprehensive reports and summaries of findings.
  • Take ownership of the day-to-day planning of your own experiments.
  • Develop figures to depict research findings, write research and review papers, and present at scientific meetings.
  • Write grants for external fellowships and awards.
  • Maintain intellectual curiosity and commitment by staying up to date with relevant literature and research publications.
  • Willing to work with animal models.

Qualifications

  • PhD, MD/PhD, MD, or doctoral equivalent in relevant discipline including chemistry, biochemistry, medical physics, and optical engineering. Strong candidates from other biomedical fields will also be considered.
  • Interest in applying medical imaging and theragnostic approaches to challenges in cancer biology.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Evidence of consistent scientific innovation. Proven track record of publications in peer reviewed journals.
  • The ability to perform both self-directed and guided research is required.
  • Demonstrate outstanding ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team of scientists.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Able to collect and analyze experimental data, prepare research publications, and communicate results with strong attention to detail.
