Postdoctoral Research Fellow-Stegmaier & Hovestadt Labs

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

Boston, MA

Full Time

The Hovestadt and Stegmaier Labs in the Department of Pediatric Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (affiliations with Boston Children's Hospital and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard) are seeking highly motivated applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position. Our labs study childhood cancers, including brain tumors, leukemias, and high-risk solid tumors. We aim to better understand tumor biology and identify new therapeutic targets using cutting-edge experimental and computational approaches.

We are leading a highly collaborative project with the Broad Institute and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, known as the Pediatric Cancer Dependency Map Accelerator. Our goal is to systematically profile and screen the spectrum of high-risk cancers diagnosed in children using CRISPR-based and small-molecule approaches. The project is an extension of our previous work which generated a first-generation Pediatric Cancer Dependency Map (Dharia et al., Nature Genetics, 2021; ) and has already led to new biological insights about mechanisms of disease and candidate therapeutic targets.

Responsibilities

The postdoctoral fellow will lead the computational analysis and biological interpretation of Pediatric Cancer Dependency Map data integrated with primary pediatric tumor data. The goals of these analyses are to identify tumor-specific dependencies and to determine the mechanisms driving the target gene's role in tumor maintenance. The project provides ample opportunity to advance scientific skills and to collaborate with world renowned experts in the fields of childhood cancer research, functional genomics, and epigenomics. Candidates need to be passionate about cancer research and intrinsically motivated. Creativity and innovative/independent thinking are a must.

Qualifications

Please include CV and cover letter in the application.

  • A PhD, PhD-MD or doctoral equivalent in Cancer Biology, Epigenetics/Genetics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics, or related disciplines
  • Solid understanding of human cancer biology and genomics approaches including CRISPR screening
  • Prior experience in biostatistics and/or machine learning approaches
  • Programming skills in at least one statistical computing software (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB)
  • Experience in developing methods to analyze and visualize new types of genomic data
  • Familiarity with high performance computing environments
  • Ability to lead research projects working with postdocs and graduate students
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with scientists across disciplines from DFCI and other research centers
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational techniques, including the ability to handle a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • An outstanding academic track record
