POSITION SUMMARY:

The TOSA Reading Interventionist Lead position will facilitate district and site student achievement efforts related to literacy intervention. This position fosters the development and growth of reading interventionists and the district's MTSS; and facilitates job-embedded professional development including infusing interventions into the core areas of academic curriculum.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Facilitate the growth and development of district reading interventionists
  2. Research and provide consultant/collaborative services to 6-12 classroom teachers, model "best" intervention practices, and team teach/coach as appropriate to support individual teachers or groups of students in learning or transferring effective strategies
  3. Work closely with the district Teaching and Learning Department, building principals, and instructional coaches to identify building wide literacy needs
  4. Serve on the district curriculum review team(s) in the unpacking of standards and selection of quality instructional materials that will promote disciplinary literacy
  5. Assist with student assessments to identify those eligible for intervention services, to plan instruction, and/or to assist staff members in learning various assessment techniques
  6. Use data to drive literacy intervention PLC and school improvement discussions at all 6-12 schools
  7. Assist sites, departments, grade levels and departments with discussions focused on student growth
  8. Model intervention practices and coach teachers to support and strengthen their use of interventions in a non-evaluative form
  9. Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress
  10. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required
  11. Reinforce common intervention language and MTSS framework at all 6-12 sites
  12. Provide professional development for 6-12 teachers related to reading and writing interventions
  13. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, administrative guidelines, and specific program requirements
  14. Collaborate with the K-12 literacy coordinator, secondary curriculum coordinator, Tech Innovation Coordinator, district TOSAs, and the Director of Secondary Teaching and Learning when acting as a district liaison in responding to questions from administrators, teachers, and/or parents regarding the district's MTSS framework for literacy intervention
  15. Other duties as assigned
JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):

Required:

  1. Current Minnesota teacher licensure
  2. 5+ years of experience as a classroom teacher
  3. Extensive knowledge of evidence-based K-12 literacy practices, issues, opportunities, and current research
  4. Experience working with adults in an educational setting
  5. Deep belief in equitable practices leading to the elimination of predictable achievement disparities
  6. Experience facilitating effective PLC (professional learning community) conversations based on data
  7. Experience providing quality professional development for K-12 teachers
  8. Strong technical and organizational skills
  9. Communicates with students, families, co-workers, supervisors, and the community in a positive, professional, and responsive manner that is consistently welcoming, enhances effective work relationships, and positively promotes South Washington County Schools
  10. Demonstrated initiative in starting and leading projects, and finding solutions
Desired:

  1. Current K-12 Reading License, or graduate degree in reading or literacy-related focus
  2. Experience as an instructional coach
  3. Administrative Licensure or working toward an administrative degree
