Role Description

TheTreaty Pricing Actuary works with client data to assist underwriters andaccount executives to evaluate and price various treaty coverage lines andstructures. This person would alsoengage with clients to evaluate trends, pricing adequacy and to solve businessproblems. Ideally, we are looking forsomeone who is interested in expanding his/her role to treatyunderwriting. The Treaty Underwriter's primary responsibility is to assess,underwrite, price and structure new and renewal treaty business consistent withGeneral Re's risk appetite and profit margin expectations. On-the-job training is anticipated.

Primary Responsibilities:

Demonstrate technical capabilities, which include:
  • The ability to assess and analyze exposure to loss
  • Understanding primary insurance policy coverage
  • Understanding of primary insurance rate making
  • Ability to evaluate client and product experience
  • Capable of interpreting reinsurance treaty language and coverage intent
  • Ability to determine reinsurance pricing based on model outputs, and interaction with members of the account team.
  • Insurance company financial statement knowledge and how financials relate to reinsurance purchasing decision
  • Perform pricing analysis on Treaty reinsurance business in various lines.
  • Perform data analysis and develop analytics that enhance our understanding of the industry and of our clients.
Role Qualifications and Experience
  • 8-10 years of experience in the P&C industry. ACAS/FCAS preferred.
  • Familiarity with multiple lines of business including reinsurance pricing issues, coverage issue, and external factors impacting profitability.
  • Experience in P&C pricing, preferably reinsurance pricing
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within differing team structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work calmly and effectively under time constraints.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills. Attention to detail.
  • Strong math/analytical skills
  • Excellent computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of/ experience with catastrophe models is a plus.
  • Self-starter and ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Some travel expected.
