Summary

This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until 07/29/2024 and may be extended until all vacancies are filled. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be May 9, 2024. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled.

The Mental Health RRTP provides a 24-hour therapeutic setting utilizing professional and peer supports. The primary goal of the Mental Health RRTP is to provide treatment and rehabilitation services to Veterans who have mental health and substance abuse disorders that are often complex and co-occur with other medical concerns and psychosocial needs such as employment and housing.

The RRTP LPN performs care of Veterans through the implementation of assigned interventions targeted towards maximizing self-care management ability. Major duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides physical and emotional care to Veterans with mental illness, behavioral and physical needs within the scope of practice while under the direction of an RN.
  • Considers lifespan issues and provides care to young adults through geriatric patients, inclusive of all gender designations and needs.
  • Completes patient focused assessments, recognizing signs and symptoms of withdrawal.
  • Completes clinical reminders and reports of data findings to the clinician, provider, or RN.
  • Administers medications and injections to patients accurately, timely, and according to facility policy.
  • Keeps patient care areas and medication room clean and free of clutter and restocks supplies as needed, anticipating workflow.
  • Performs urine specimen collections, use of breathalyzer and other point of care specimen collection as ordered.
  • Participates in nursing reports and other care team meetings to ensure continuity in Veterans care that is provided in the mental health setting.
  • Initiates therapeutic communications with Veterans and families utilizing formal and informal communication processes.
  • Initiates and evaluates Veteran's participation in the mental health setting such as nursing led groups and community meetings.
  • Report and record observations and information related to the care of the patient and integrate the use of health care technology into the provision of nursing care.
  • Participates in patient/family teaching programs related to health promotion and reinforces instructions provided by the registered nurse and physician and documents in approved format.
Work Schedule: The RRTP provides 24-hour care. 8- and/or 12-hour, rotating schedules available. Rotating weekends and holidays required. Actual tour of duty to be discussed during interview.

Additional Pay:
  • Shift Differential - 10% of basic pay for work performed during regularly scheduled hours between 6pm and 6am.
  • Weekend Premium - 25% of basic pay for work performed between the hours of midnight Friday and midnight Sunday. This includes continuous service connected to work performed during these hours.
  • Holiday Pay - 2 times basic hourly rate for regularly scheduled, non-overtime work on a designated holiday.
Compressed/Flexible:Available

Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Recruitment/Relocation incentive of up to $2,000 authorized for eligible, highly qualified applicants. A service agreement is required for all relocation incentives.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
