Overview

Are you a creative, passionate, and results-driven student interested in bringing big ideas to life? The AARP Thought Leadership Team is looking for you Our team helps position AARP as the preeminent global leader in challenging outdated beliefs and sparking new solutions for people to choose how they live as they age. The Thought Leadership team seeks a creative, analytical, and forward-thinking intern to join our team as we leverage, develop, and champion new insights and thought-provoking ideas backed by evidence and create bold solutions to address major societal issues. The ideal intern will work closely with team members and have the opportunity to work on live projects and contribute to reports and engagements that will help advance their careers.

This position requires someone with a high degree of organization, an ability to see the "big picture," and an understanding of the level of detail needed to ensure success. Creativity and initiative are critical for this role. Candidates must have strong attention to detail and an interest in aging, longevity, health, and financial security issues. AARP is committed to your growth and cultivating your continued learning and development. This paid internship has an anticipated start date of Summer 2024, with the possibility of extending additional semesters.

Responsibilities

Perform a range of tasks depending on the project, research, and communications needs of Thought Leadership Identify and research thought leaders across numerous industries Draft social media copy based on existing Thought Leadership reports Stay up to date on trending issues across industries as it relates to longevity and equity Event support, including assisting in logistics surrounding global thought leadership events Write, proof, or fact-check reports Provide administrative support
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university; be considered a rising undergraduate junior or senior, graduate student, or postdoctoral student; and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship Pursuing a degree in political science, economics, public policy, communications, or related fields An entrepreneurial mindset, proactive attitude, and desire to seize opportunities. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including social media Must be a self-starter and adaptable Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate project needs, and discern work priorities Ability to work well with diverse populations, including gender, race, and sexual orientation Familiarity with creating and editing videos and knowledge of multiple social media platforms is a plus

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, and $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
