Duties
  • Receives and reviews a variety of letters and files to ensure that materials are related to attorney fees and fall within OAO's jurisdiction.
  • Takes appropriate actions on all active cases, prepares suspense files for inactive cases, and refers non attorney fee materials to appropriate action offices within OAO or SSA.
  • Obtains print outs to determine level of jurisdiction, location of files, and related information. Separates requests and initiates appropriate procedures for each type of request.
  • Reviews all outgoing materials for procedural and clerical considerations. Ensures that all identifying data is correct, that materials are prepared in proper format and that required attachments are included.
  • Regularly calls attorneys and other SSA components to clarify unclear requests or to explain regulatory or procedural requirements related to filing attorney fees.
  • Establishes and maintains comprehensive control records for all actions taken by the incumbent or Analysts.

      Qualifications

      Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-05 level, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience should include knowledge of SSA regulations, programs, procedures, and systems as it relates to claims adjudication and civil litigation processes, procedures and practices in processing claims filed under Titles II, XVI, and XVIII of the Social Security Act, as amended.

      NOTE: Your SSA-45 must specifically address the evaluation criteria for the position. Describe duties you perform (not just knowledge, skills and abilities) as they relate to the specialized experience required for this position. Be clear, accurate and specific when describing your experience; e.g., list all positions separately, include full start and stop dates for each position, your grade and a comprehensive description of the relevant duties you performed in each position. If your SSA-45 does not give a detailed description of the duties you perform as they relate to the required qualifications for this position, your application will receive no further consideration.

      NONCOMPETITIVE CONSIDERATION DUE TO SPECIAL HIRING AUTHORITY
      Applications for noncompetitive consideration will be accepted from SSA employees in the area of consideration who are currently serving under the following types of appointments: Schedule A, Reg U) appointments for individuals with disabilities; Veterans Recruitment Appointments ; and time limited appointments for veterans with a compensable service-connected disability of 30% or more. Applicants serving under these provisions do not need to submit copies of your disability or Veteran's documentation. However, you must submit a current SF-50 that provides information on the appointment authority under which you were hired. Otherwise, you will not receive non-competitive consideration.

      NOTE: Excepted service employees serving under Schedule A appointments for Attorney positions or Pathways Programs appointments (Presidential Management Fellows, Recent Graduates, and Interns) are not eligible for consideration.

      This is a bargaining unit position, represented by AFGE, to be filled under the provisions of the SSA/AFGE Merit Promotion Plan . Additional selections may be made within 6 months of the date of the initial selection.

      LOCALITY PAY: Salary will be set in accordance with locality pay provisions. Candidates currently receiving a higher locality pay than the office applied for are advised that should they be selected, they will lose entitlement to the higher locality pay.

      OTHER NOTES:

      This is NOT a virtual position, and outstationing is not available. The selectee will be required to live within a two hour commute distance of either Woodlawn, MD, or Washington, DC.

      This position is eligible for telework. As determined by the agency's telework policy, you are required to live within a 2 hour commuting distance of your assigned duty station.

      Relocation expenses will not be paid.

      This is a moderate risk public trust position. The selected employee will be required to complete a Standard Form 85P, Questionnaire for Public Trust Positions, in order to have the appropriate investigation conducted, unless the employee has been previously certified eligible to occupy a position at this level.
