Director of Media Sales

Remote, Oregon, United States The Looma Project Full time

Looma Background

Looma is an in-store digital media platform focused on storytelling, education, and recommendations. Their network of in-store screens helps retailers better modernize and monetize their stores, while enabling brands to tell their story directly at the point of decision. All content that airs on Looma's network is produced or edited by RelayTM, their global network of independent filmmakers, editors, and other creators who specialize in point-of-decision content.

Looma has recently signed contracts that grow our network 4x over the next 6 months, and we have a number of additional pilots & rollouts going live in the coming 12 months, requiring us to dramatically scale our offering along several dimensions. As we make headway in atmospheric screens, a new product line that will become a substantial part of our business over the next 5 years, we need to build out the infrastructure and eventually the team that will sell them.

Position Summary

Looma's Director of Media Sales role blends sales, strategy, analysis, and design to optimize programs that both delight shoppers and deliver business value to our partners, with a particular focus on selling atmospheric screens to enterprise brands. (Looma's core focus to date has been merch-integrated screens, or screens co-located with the product; "atmospheric" is our term for screens that are not co-located with merchandise, i.e., at the store entrance or hanging from a ceiling.)

As the Director of Media Sales you will be responsible for building a book of business with enterprise CPGs. You will sell both the media buy and the content production to these brands. The Director of Media Sales will need to build top-of-the-funnel prospects and then lead prospects through the sales pipeline through deal-close. Throughout the sales process, you will educate brands about their need for optimized point-of-decision content — on LoopTM and beyond — and quickly cultivate relationships of trust and respect with brand marketing executives. For specific campaigns, you will help design and pitch content strategies to develop beautiful, impactful content that aligns with both Looma's human-centric approach and our brands' marketing objectives. Ultimately, your efforts will enable Looma to become these brands' dominant provider of in-store digital media over the coming years.

We are strongly prioritizing candidates with an understanding of the CPG space (or comparable) and its organizational and budgetary dynamics. A firm belief in our educational storytelling model — as opposed to traditional advertising — is essential.

The responsibilities for this role can be split into three primary categories:

  • Direct Sales & Partnership Management (70%)
    • Identify target brand partners for retail programs
    • Sell complex LoopTM campaign packages to executive-level buyers
    • Design and maintain program-specific sales materials
    • Co-sell film production packages alongside our Content & Creative team
    • Build and conduct bi-annual performance reviews with top brand portfolios
    • Increase brand spend year over year
    • Work alongside our account management team to ensure brands are well-informed and remain Looma advocates
    • Write exceptional emails that are polished and beautiful
  • Content Experimentation & Innovation (10%)
    • Partner with Looma's Chief Creative Officer to constantly improve the content strategy portion of the brand partner experience
    • Assist in the development of our ever-expanding portfolio of content types and offerings
    • Periodically seek brand marketing feedback on our process and content
  • Team Development (20%)
    • Team development will grow over time, but this will start as a heavily IC role.

Attributes

  • Excited by our mission to build the most performant and beautiful platform for in-store digital media
  • Demonstrated experience selling media and/or advertising to enterprise CPG brands and/or shopper marketers
  • In-depth understanding of the shopper marketing ecosystem
  • Strong branding instincts and understanding of current brand trends
  • Startup experience strongly preferred
  • Strong customer orientation (natural sales and customer experience competence)
  • Warm and professional in communicating both internally and externally
  • Operationally excellent – able to manage dozens of relationships in concert
  • Fun to work with — collaborative, positive, and energized by challenges

Structure & Compensation

Looma will provide a competitive compensation package consisting of base salary and stock options. All Looma compensation packages include some cash / equity flexibility (i.e. you can opt for more equity and less cash or vice-versa).

Benefits

  • Employee coverage for health, dental, and vision (gold plan)
  • Unlimited PTO (3-week minimum)
  • Flexible office setting (office, flex, or WFH, with associated stipends)
  • $100/month craftsmanship stipend
  • 6 weeks birthing leave, 6 weeks bonding leave
  • 401(k) plan

Our Values

At Looma, we strive to be and/or create work that is:

  • For You: generous, generative, trustworthy, in your corner
  • Incisive: pragmatic, wise, perceptive, insightful
  • Beautiful & Clear: polished, elegant, detailed, conveys a sense of craftsmanship
  • Undaunted: tenacious, courageous, indomitable, "impenetrable ray of sun"

Diversity & Nondiscrimination

Looma is committed to promoting diversity both in our workplace and through the stories we tell. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability status, age, marital status, protected veteran status, class or caste status, or any other protected class. Our global nondiscrimination policy covers these protected classes in every market in which we do business.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
