The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the nation's leading advocacy organization for children's healthcare, is in search of a proactive individual with strong project management skills to develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate evidence-based simulation education events. Reporting to the Director of Simulation and Clinical Skills Training, this position will oversee the operations of the simulation lab while collaborating with internal and external content experts to achieve the goals of the simulation program strategic plan.

Some tasks include:

1. Manage the AAP Section on Simulation and Innovative Learning Methods (SoSILM), including developing and disseminating meeting agendas and minutes and following up on action items.

2. Collaborate with supervisor, members, instructors, and other relevant AAP staff in identifying, developing, and implementing simulation-based activities.

3. Ensure simulation best-practice application in simulation-based projects/programs.

4. Provide consultation on the use of simulation using a variety of modalities as an appropriate tool for specific educational goals.

5. Develop, lead, and/or deliver simulation-based education based on learning objectives utilizing adult learning principles.

6. Generate innovative ideas and evaluate new advancements in simulation pedagogy for integration into education.

7. Serve as a point of contact for those interested in developing and implementing simulation projects or initiatives and manage internal and external stakeholder relationships. Partner with internal and external content experts and other relevant partners in the development of clinical simulation scenarios, and test/pilot new simulation scenarios.

8. Serve as a project manager for all assigned initiatives, including developing business cases for various project ideas, proposals, and innovations; managing assigned budgets, preparing variance reports, and monitoring funds; and performing review and evaluation of simulation programs/projects to ensure effectiveness; using internal and external benchmark data and best practices to establish specific targets, timelines, and metrics for improvement.

9. Select and/or develop, and implement evaluation tools (instruments, metrics, and checklists) appropriate for the measurement of simulation outcomes.

10. Support the preparation of writing grants to support the simulation program.

11. Maintain technical expertise for operation and troubleshooting of simulation equipment.

12. Supervise and mentor assigned staff. Encourage a work environment that promotes inclusion and belonging of all staff. Support ongoing staff development, help set objectives, and evaluate performance, and promote and enhance staff capacity in skills necessary to achieve goals. Ensure staff operate in a fiscally prudent manner, maintain confidentiality, operate with the highest ethical standards, and provide excellent service to members and volunteers.

13. Educate others on the pedagogy of simulation, mentor developing simulation facilitators, and provide coaching and feedback to facilitators, instructors, and learners as appropriate.

14. Assist in developing and implementing simulation policies, processes, and procedures consistent with the program and organization mission and goals and the SSIH (Society for Simulation in Healthcare) Accreditation standards.

15. Facilitate marketing, public affairs and communication needs of the program.

16. Develop and maintain communication tools related to simulation.

17. Partner in simulation research, data collection, and analysis.

18. Engage in available opportunities to learn about current developments and best practices in simulation, share information and best practices externally (e.g., publications, as presenter or panelist at industry conferences and events), develop and maintain relationships with simulation specialists to engage in collaborative problem solving and innovation.

19. Maintain data confidentiality and security.

20. Provide visitor and guided tours/open houses of the simulation lab.
