Job Summary:

Francis W. Parker School is a renowned JK-12 th grade independent day school. Founded in 1901 on the tenets of progressive education, the school currently enrolls 942 students and employs over 200 dedicated faculty and staff members who, in addition to assistant teachers, substitute teachers and coaches, work together to ensure that the School lives up to its Mission to "educate students to think and act with empathy, courage and clarity as responsible citizens and leaders in a diverse, democratic society and global community."

We are currently seeking a dynamic, innovative, and experienced Second Grade Teacher to join our expert faculty. The Second Grade Teacher works on a grade level team with two other teachers, as well as in collaboration with math, reading, and learning resource specialists. The Second Grade Teacher should possess a holistic view of children, an understanding of the developmental issues of 2 nd grade students, a passion for integrated learning, and strong communication skills. The Second Grade Teacher must be talented in teaching math, reading, writing, and social studies and oriented toward experiences with art, music, science, and drama. A commitment to experiential learning is essential, as the Second Grade curriculum is collaborative and integrated. The Second Grade teacher must also be able to modify curriculum for different types of learners and write descriptive narrative report cards.

Elementary Education Degree; M.A. in Education preferred Significant classroom teaching experience; 5 year minimum preferred Ability to collaborate, create, and modify curriculum with colleagues on a team Demonstrated record of developing one's own cultural competency and incorporating diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging concepts into practices and curriculum Experience in explicit math and reading instruction focused on comprehension and problem solving for elementary age students Passion for connecting with students and creating a healthy classroom community Experience with progressive education and its application for 2 nd grade learners Organized and purposeful with materials and lesson plans Excellence in classroom management techniques, especially toward building SEL and executive functioning skills Flexibility in working with colleagues to integrate topics between disciplines Enthusiasm for professional development and continuing to grow knowledge about pedagogy and student development Superior communication skills in both oral and written forms Social emotional skills that are professional, use sound judgment, and show emotional maturity Proficiency with Google Classroom Suite and technology in general Experience with supervising and mentoring assistant or student teachers Adept at clear and tactful communication with parents Ability to embrace and manage parental help around special events that enrich the curriculum
