JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Director of UConn Communication Access and Interpreting Services (UCIS), coordinates and manages the day-to-day administrative activities for federally-mandated communication access accommodations for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Assists the Director in resolving compliance-related issues and works with the Center for Students with Disabilities to discharge the University's responsibilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinates the provision of accommodations for students, faculty, staff, and visitors who are deaf or hard of hearing, as those accommodations relate to communication access—including the provision of on-site or remote sign language interpreters, on-site or remote speech-to-text services, closed captioning, assistive technology, and auxiliary aids, as appropriate. This includes scheduling service providers, collecting and disseminating preparatory materials, and other tasks related to communication access coordination.Consults with educational audiologists at UConn's Speech and Hearing Clinic, as necessary, to acquire appropriate and compatible auxiliary aides.Collaborates with Disability Service Professionals on cases that require accommodations for communication access.Assists the Director in research, development, and implementation of policies, procedures, and services.Assists the Director in evaluating effectiveness through the collection and analysis of service data and related research.Conducts data analysis on UCIS activities for mid-year and end-of-year reporting.Reviews invoices from contracted interpreters and CART services agencies for accuracy of scheduled vs. billed dates; submits for payment.May coordinate in-service training to faculty, staff, and interpreters; may prepare information materials.Interviews, hires, trains, and supervises a team of student employees who provide administrative and clerical support to UCIS.Develops and administers UCIS webpage with assistance from CSDTech.Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the program to be served.Three to four years of experience in a progressively responsible administrative support position.Demonstrated ability to communicate information effectively to groups with different backgrounds and experiences (i.e. students, parents/guardians, colleagues).Demonstrated interpersonal skills necessary for effective work relationships.Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity issues.Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrated experience in post-secondary disability service provision.Fluency in American Sign Language.Familiarity with Deaf culture and the broader field of communication access.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, permanent position located at the Storrs campus. This position may include occasional planned evening and weekend work.
