United States Mount Sinai Health System Full time
Strength Through Diversity Ground breaking science. Advancing medicine. Healing made personal.

Roles & Responsibilities:

The Nash Family Center for Advanced Circuit Therapeutics (C-ACT) at The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is seeking a Research Coordinator to perform clinical research data collection and analysis activities, as well as research study coordination, for projects utilizing deep brain stimulation (DBS) for neuropsychiatric disorders.

Current projects include behavioral and clinical assessment in patients receiving DBS for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and Parkinson's disease.

This is an excellent opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research as a member of a multidisciplinary research team of technical and clinical experts.

The Research Coordinator will report to Dr.

Martijn Figee, a psychiatrist who has expertise in the neuropsychiatric applications of DBS, and will have the opportunity to interact with a diverse team of clinicians (from the Departments of Psychiatry, Neurology, and Neurosurgery) and scientists who focus on the use of neuroimaging, neuroengineering, computational neuroscience, and bioinformatics in the context of invasive neuromodulation.

These projects are in collaboration with our new Center for Computational Psychiatry directed by Dr. Xiaosi Gu.

Located at Mount Sinai West, C-ACT (Director:
Helen Mayberg, MD) is a new interdisciplinary research unit, embedded within the Center for Neuromodulation.

C-ACT supports research activities using imaging, invasive and noninvasive electrophysiology, performance and behavioral metrics, computational modeling, and clinical and research bioinformatics involving patients electing to undergo surgical neuromodulation procedures for treatment refractory neurological and psychiatric symptoms.

This core facility enables the development and implementation of new neuromodulatory strategies to accelerate the delivery of state-of-the art, individualized care for patients with advanced neuropsychiatric disorders—be it those where brain stimulation therapies are already clinically available (such as in Parkinson's disease and epilepsy) or those applications currently considered experimental (such as in the treatment of depression, OCD, eating disorders, and addiction).

The Center aims to facilitate the advancement of invasive neuromodulation though the use of next-generation implantable devices, the development of computational algorithms for improvements in treatment delivery, and the employment of novel clinical applications, which will serve to complement the existing personalized, evidenced-based care currently provided to C-ACT patients.
