Summary:

The Department of Hearing, Speech, and Language Sciences in the School of Human Services and Sciences seeks applicants for a full-time pre-tenure-track or tenure-track faculty position in the Doctor of Audiology (AuD) Program. Applicants will be committed to: teaching Doctor of Audiology courses and Ph.D. level courses in the Hearing, Speech and Language Sciences; conducting research in their area(s) of expertise; and engaging in service to the program, University and profession. Opportunities for clinical teaching and supervision may also be available. The position is contingent on funding.

Job Description:

Gallaudet University serves deaf and hard of hearing students from many different backgrounds and seeks to develop a workforce that reflects the diversity of its student body. The Doctor of Audiology program, accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Programs (CAA), strives to train deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing graduate students to become audiologists who are uniquely prepared to meet the needs of a diverse clientele. Responsibilities:

Teach courses in the Doctor of Audiology program, with opportunities to teach other courses supported by the Department of Hearing, Speech, and Language Sciences.

Advise graduate students, mentor research students, serve on or chair Ph.D. dissertation work, and work collaboratively with faculty, clinical educators, and department staff.

Engage in research in the discipline.

Participate in department, school, university, and other faculty and professional service

Establish and maintain a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.

Demonstrate a genuine commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and participate in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.

Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements annually.

Performs related and other duties as needed.

Opportunities for clinical teaching and supervision may also be available.

Requirements:

An earned terminal research degree in Audiology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Hearing, Speech, and Language Sciences or a related field or an ABD candidate with expectations of dissertation completion within one year of hire.

Eligibility for DC Audiology Licensure and/or ASHA CCC-A preferred.

Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in: Cochlear Implants, Aural Rehabilitation, and Amplification.

Candidates must demonstrate a research line compatible with teaching and mentoring AuD and Ph.D. students.

Preferred candidates will have knowledge of and experience in research, teaching, and/or clinical work in culturally and linguistically diverse settings.

The candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and a desire for collaboration within the field and across professions.

Fluency in American Sign Language is desirable; applicants who are not fluent must be willing to learn.

Rank and Salary: Rank and salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Appointment will be for the regular nine-month academic year with the possibility of adding up to two summer months.
