Job Summary
The Department of Occupational Therapy within the Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences invites applications for a 12-month, Clinical Assistant/Associate faculty position to serve as Academic Fieldwork Coordinator (AFWC) for the entry-level Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) Program at Jacksonville University.

Supervisory Responsibilities
None.

Duties/Responsibilities
Organize and manage the clinical fieldwork component of the OTD curriculum.
Identify and secure sites for fieldwork education.
Collaborate with and train fieldwork educators.
Review the quality and appropriateness of Academic Fieldwork sites in collaboration with other academic faculty.
The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator will have sufficient release time from academic teaching responsibilities to ensure that fieldwork and residency program needs are met.

Specifically responsible for the program's compliance with the academic fieldwork requirements of Standards Section ACOTE C.1.0
Ensure that the fieldwork program reflects the sequence and scope of content in the curriculum design, in collaboration with faculty, so that fieldwork experiences in traditional, nontraditional, and emerging settings strengthen the ties between didactic and fieldwork education. ACOTE C.1.1
Document the criteria and process for selecting fieldwork sites, to include maintaining memoranda of understanding, complying with all site requirements, maintaining site objectives and site data, and communicating this information to students prior to the start of the fieldwork experience. ACOTE C.1.2
Document that academic and fieldwork educators agree on established fieldwork objectives prior to the start of the fieldwork experience and communicate with the student and fieldwork educator about progress and performance throughout the fieldwork experience. ACOTE C.1.3
Ensure that fieldwork objectives for all experiences include a psychosocial objective.

Ensure that the ratio of fieldwork educators to students enables proper supervision,
and provides protection of consumers, opportunities for appropriate role modeling of
occupational therapy practice, and the ability to provide frequent assessment of student
progress in achieving stated fieldwork objectives. ACOTE C.1.4
Ensure that fieldwork agreements are sufficient in scope and number to allow completion of graduation requirements in a timely manner, in accordance with the policy adopted by the program as required by Standard A.4.7. ACOTE C.1.5
Ensure that personnel who supervise Level I fieldwork are informed of the curriculum and fieldwork program design and affirm their ability to support the fieldwork experience. This must occur prior to the onset of the Level I fieldwork. Examples include, but are not limited to, currently licensed or otherwise regulated occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants, psychologists, physician assistants, teachers, social workers, physicians, speech language pathologists, nurses, and physical
therapists. ACOTE C.1.8.
Document that Level I fieldwork is provided to students and is not substituted for any
part of the Level II fieldwork. Ensure that Level I fieldwork enriches didactic
coursework through directed observation and participation in selected aspects of the
occupational therapy process, and includes mechanisms for formal evaluation of
student performance. ACOTE C.1.9
Closely monitor the hours the students complete during their fieldwork experiences to ensure compliance with ACOTE standard C.1.10.
Document and verify that the student is supervised by a currently licensed or otherwise regulated occupational therapist who has a minimum of 1 year full-time (or its equivalent) of practice experience as a licensed or otherwise regulated occupational therapist prior to the onset of the Level II fieldwork. ACOTE C.1.11
Ensure that the student supervisor is adequately prepared to serve as a fieldwork educator prior to the Level II fieldwork. ACOTE C.1.11
Document a mechanism for evaluating the effectiveness of supervision (e.g., student evaluation of fieldwork) and for providing resources for enhancing supervision (e.g., materials on supervisory skills, continuing education opportunities, articles on theory and practice). ACOTE C.1.12
Document and verify that supervision provided in a setting where no occupational therapy services exist includes a documented plan for provision of occupational therapy services and supervision by a currently licensed or otherwise regulated occupational therapist with at least 3 years' full-time or its equivalent of professional experience prior to the Level II fieldwork. ACOTE C.1.14
Document and verify that students attending Level II fieldwork outside the United States are supervised by an occupational therapist who graduated from a program approved by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists and has at least 1 year of experience in practice prior to the onset of Level II fieldwork. ACOTE C.1.16
Maintain an assigned teaching workload within the Department of Occupational Therapy curriculum and develop necessary syllabi, assessments, and course maintenance material.
Actively participate in scheduled Department of Occupational Therapy meetings and provide constructive suggestions/feedback for program improvement, program evaluation and strategic planning.
Assist with ACOTE Self-Study and other Accreditation activities where appropriate.
Engage in work and professional responsibilities consistent with the objectives and mission of the Department, School, College and University. ACOTE A.2.3., 2.s
Prepare for and engage in professional development activities according to established yearly goals as part of the Department Professional Development Plan (Form F) mutually agreed upon by the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator and Chair of the Department of Occupational Therapy.
Adhere to Departmental, School, College and University Policies and Procedures (e.g. HIPPA, FERPA, etc.).
Functions according to AOTA Code of Ethics (AOTA, 2015), Standards of Continuing Competence (AOTA, 2015), and Standards of Practice (AOTA, 2015) of the profession.
Teaching and Instruction: Time Allocated 50-75%.
Required Skills/Abilities
Academic and Clinical expertise in Occupational Therapy.

Education, Certificates, Licenses, & Experience
The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator shall be a Licensed Occupational Therapist in the State of Florida, initially certified by NBCOT, or its predecessor, hold a doctoral degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE-recognized regional accrediting body,
Have at least two years of practice experience including supervising and advising fieldwork
students and have documented or developing expertise in area of teaching responsibility and
knowledge of content methods. ACOTE A. 2.4., A.2.6. & A.2.7.
Physical Requirements
Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines.
Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens.
Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone.
