Lead the Mission System Business Area within the Tactical Solutions business area of BAE Systems SMS. The Tactical Solutions Strategic Business Unit delivers mission system solutions, from specialized antennas to electro-optical technologies, to the warfighter. Our systems enhance the performance of various military platforms, from aircraft and land vehicles to ships and satellites, and give warfighters the advantage they need to take action, identify targets and defend against evolving threats.
What You'll Do:
- Lead the Mission Systems Business area with responsibility for overall performance:
- Lead and develop a highly cross-functional team in the Missions Systems area focused primarily on EO/IR technologies.
- As a direct report to the VP of Tactical Solutions (TS), provide strategic and business leadership as part of the Tactical Solutions leadership team. Collaborate with other TS leaders to set priorities for execution and growth of the business.
- Drive program execution excellence by leveraging key processes, tools and training of PM staff.
- Personnel management: build integrated and high performing team across all phases of the program lifecycle from capture to delivery.
- Develop investment strategies and priorities; budget planning and spend prioritization.
- Internal investments (IRAD): Set a 3 year investment strategy which supports the Integrated Business Plan and 5 year strategic plan.
- New business capture: establish New Business Capture construct and roles and responsibilities across the Capture, Proposal and execution teams.
- Technical leadership credibility within the EO/IR field a must.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering on staffing demand and forecasting and maturing Systems Engineering and system level skill sets.
- Collaborate closely with Finance and TS VP on business performance forecasting and execution.
- Provide leadership and functional management of Business Area staff by exhibiting ethical and supportive behaviors aligned with the tenants of senior leadership. The behaviors would include:

- Managing individual performance and developing support staff.

- MS Business Area Sr. Director shall ensure collaborative and transparent relationships with all Strategic Support Units including but not limited to Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Operations, Finance.
- Contribute to TS strategic and operational planning.
- Represent TS with customers and at industry and government conferences.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.
- BS/BA in related field plus 15 years or more related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- A current, active Secret security clearance is required.
- Experience operating within classified program environments.
- Demonstrated track record of success at all levels.
- Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in technical leadership for defense systems.
- Experience in new business capture activities.
- Experience in leading design teams.
- Strong relationships within the DoD customer community.
- Experienced presenter to senior decision makers.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent technical competence in any of the following is required:
- Optics
- Focal plane arrays and focal plane subsystems
- APT (acquisition, pointing & tracking) techniques/systems
- Electro-optical remote sensing payload systems operating from visible to LWIR
- Ground systems and technologies
- Multiple special resiliency-specific clearances.
- 15+ years of experience in aerospace or related industry.
- Advanced degree.
- Proven programmatic background within government or industry.
Full-Time Salary Range: $ $280000
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
