Position Description:

The Department of Counseling & Human Development invites applications for a clinical assistant professor in Counselor Education to teach classes and serve as clinical coordinator for the CACREP-accredited M.Ed., Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) program. We welcome applicants with a wide array of clinical counseling and program coordination experiences, and who can effectively cultivate and sustain relationships in the Louisville Metro area with clinical mental health agencies that render services to diverse client populations.

We seek a colleague who will teach, advise, and supervise students in the CMHC master's program, as well as other programs within the department. There are also opportunities to teach at the undergraduate level. We welcome applicants with a wide array of counseling experiences who can effectively supervise students who offer services to diverse client populations. The faculty work closely with students and each other in a collaborative and collegial program environment. The CMHC program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Counseling and Other Related Programs (CACREP).

Our department is committed to preparing practitioners and scholars who work with diverse populations to address equity and opportunity gaps (e.g., access to culturally responsive community-based mental health services) and build a socially just and democratic society. That commitment is reflected in the relationships this department has established with mental health agencies, community organizations, the local school district, and behavioral health-related entities across the city. Therefore, the successful candidate must demonstrate how they can assist students in developing their cultural humility and clinical skills in the context of intentionally coordinated clinical placements within a diverse metropolitan area.

Position Description

The Clinical Coordinator is a member of the full-time CACREP core faculty who oversees the practicum and internship portion of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to classroom instruction, selection of student clinical sites and placements, monitoring students in group supervision classes, investigating agencies for qualifying criteria, meeting with site supervisors, serving as liaison between the University and clinical agencies, responding to inquiries regarding practicum and internship, and ensuring CACREP standards. The Clinical Coordinator engages in professional associations and the local community as necessary to promote the visibility and stature of the program.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach 8 graduate-level courses per year (typically 4 per semester)
  • Serve as Clinical Coordinator for the CMHC program
  • Serving on department, school, and/or university committees
  • Academic advising and mentoring of graduate students
  • Participation and leadership in the profession


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Earned doctoral degree in a counselor education program, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program, or a related doctoral degree with prior experience as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before August 1, 2024
  • Experiences working with diverse populations and evidence of a commitment to social justice and equity frameworks
  • The ability to teach core clinical mental health courses
  • Licensed or license-eligible as a professional clinical counselor in the Commonwealth of Kentucky (If not licensed the successful applicant will be expected to become licensed within the first year)
  • The ability to supervise students rendering counseling services in various clinical settings (e.g., schools, community-based clinic)


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Clinical counseling and clinical coordinating experiences that align or overlap with the wide array of clinical interests already present in the department
  • Active membership and engagement with professional organizations (e.g., American Counselor Association (ACA); American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA associated with the field

The Department of Counseling and Human Development includes doctoral programs in College Student Personnel, Counselor Education and Supervision, Counseling Psychology, and Educational Psychology, Measurement and Evaluation. Additionally, there are master's programs in Art Therapy, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, College Student Personnel, and Counseling Psychology. Salary: Competitive, based upon qualifications and experience

Appointment: 10-month with option of summer teaching
