The Center of Excellence (CoE) in Data Sciences, AI and Bioinformatics at Labcorp Information Technology department applies various data science disciplines (including artificial intelligence, machine learning, graph databases, statistics, bioinformatics, and natural language processing) to our clinical, operational and financial challenges, and creates opportunities to enhance the value of our offerings to our customers. Additionally, it integrates the data sciences, AI and bioinformatics efforts across Labcorp and serves as a collaboration platform to foster teamwork and learning throughout the Labcorp IT organization.

Job Posting: Bioinformatics Scientist

Description: Qualified applicant will apply a wide range of computational approaches and integrating various data sources for clinical testing. Examples include copy number analysis, structural variant detection, variant detection in challenging genomic regions, non-coding regulatory variant analysis, and applying deep learning and data mining to gain biological/disease insights and to develop diagnostic tools and computational analysis pipelines for improving human health.

Job details

  • Work with Labcorp IT team to set up in-house/cloud computing environment
  • Compile relevant data from public sources and Labcorp proprietary data
  • Configure, set up, refine, train and test data analysis pipeline
  • Document results in a report and present results to Labcorp scientists

Education and qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree in computer science, bioinformatics or related discipline
  • Enjoy solving problems; inquisitive and analytical; engaged and motivated
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a larger team
  • Ability to see the big picture and work towards that goal

Experience

  • You have string programming experience in AI/ML, Python, Java, R, or Perl
  • You are familiar with machine learning
  • You have some knowledge/experience with cloud computing (e.g., Amazon AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure)
  • Basic understanding of genomics, database systems and biology is helpful but not required
