Supports the design, development, analysis, implementation and on-going administration of compensation programs. Responds to inquiries and concerns regarding employee Compensation and position control. Partners with ODHR team to counsel employees and supervisors in total rewards offerings to enhance the value of working at Valencia.

Essential Job Functions

Description of Job Function
1. Supports the research, design and planning of college-wide compensation. Collaborates with leadership in the development, implementation and administration of effective compensation strategies to recruit and retain diverse talent.

2. Reviews new position requests for recruitment or promotions to determine if an existing description can be used for classification. Makes recommendations on modifications to existing descriptions or creates new descriptions to accurately reflect current roles, responsibilities and requirements.

3. Provides initial reviews of department requests for position changes and supports full cycle job description modifications for promotions, reorganizations and related projects. Performs job audits and evaluations, initiates and supports interactive and iterative discussions with hiring managers and supervisors.

4. Uses published or conducts ad hoc surveys to obtain and analyze market pay rates. Makes recommendations on appropriate pay grade level. Reviews recommendations within College for internal equity. Prepares reports on findings and handles administrative steps to formalize recommendations.

5. Manages job description database including creating, editing, and updating job descriptions as needed. Performs on-going audits on job descriptions and position titles to support position management processes and reporting.

6. Performs detailed analysis and provides recommendations on appropriate compensation offers for new hires, transfers and promotions.

7. Provides support to the establishment and classification of all College positions in HRIS systems, including but not limited to salary tables, salary groups, positions, and position budgets.

8. Audits current processes to ensure compliance with Compensation and position control philosophy and procedures. Provide guidance and support to managers and associates with questions and/or concerns regarding HR compliance policies, procedures, and processes.

9. Manages position control responsibilities in collaboration with leadership and the Compensation team. Ensures all aspects of job creation are addressed in a timely manner i.e. creation of position numbers, posting of new and revised descriptions, etc.

10. Researches situations as they arise to provide clarity for current and historical compensation practices such as offers, position control and salary increases.

11. Supports the Compensation team on creating annual salary projections and analytics for a variety of employee groups. Collaborates with Compensation and Budget teams to assist with annual salary planning and increases, staff projections, and position budget allocation.

12. Collaborates with Human Resources Information Systems team in compiling, analyzing, and validating data required to prepare internal and external reports on compensation and position control.

13. Provides data input to annual salary surveys.

Required Qualifications

Required Minimum Education Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution, or any equivalent combination of related education, training, and/or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions.
Required Field of Study
Business administration or related field.

Other Required Qualifications
Experience in Human Resources operations, compensation, talent acquisition or related field.

Required License/Certification

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education & Field of Study
Experience with advanced data analysis and reporting in Excel.

Preferred Type of Experience
Experience with job analysis, market research and writing job descriptions.

Preferred Licenses/Certification
Experience in a higher education or non-profit setting.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of the human resource function, related laws, benefits and total rewards.

Knowledge of compensation administration methods, practices and techniques as well as an in depth knowledge of analysis and reporting techniques.

Ability to make effective decisions and recommendations based on compensation policy and practices and when appropriate, to elevate decisions to supervisor. Strong advisory and influencing skills, ability to build and manage relationships, and set clear expectations with key business partners.

Ability to effectively collect, analyze, evaluate and prepare compensation related statistical and market based data.

Ability to effectively communicate interpersonally, orally and in writing with employees at all levels of the organization.

Ability to adhere to strict deadlines on a continuing basis and function effectively under heavy workloads during peak periods.

Ability to work collaboratively to address and resolve difficult and sensitive situations.

Ability to develop and implement action plans to address unique and unusual compensation issues.

Advanced skill in the use of Excel, including but not limited to pivot tables, v-lookups, and formula creation.

Skill in the use of personal computers and general office software, including database programs and advanced spreadsheets applications.

Ability to handle multiple priorities and confidential assignments, organize work, and function independently.

Demonstrated ability to promote and maintain effective working relationships.

Demonstrated ability to address sensitive and difficult employee issues.

Demonstrated ability to take initiative and to work with minimal supervision.

Ability to travel between campus locations.

Working Conditions

General Working Conditions
This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. The employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to frequently remaining stationary, moving, reaching, positioning self and occasionally ascending/descending, lifting/moving objects weighing between 5-15 pounds. This job also entails frequently communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus. Cognitive abilities include but are not limited to frequently using discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision-making. The typical work environment, physical and cognitive demands listed above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
