Summary

This position is located in the Division of Community Health Services at Northern Navajo Medical Center, Shiprock, NM. The incumbent functions under the direct supervision of the Community Health Director and has responsibility for supervising, managing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the provision of Community Health services at Northern Navajo Medical Center.



Duties

The incumbent organizes, directs and reviews work, administers personnel matters, manages a budget, establishes and maintains logistical systems and accomplishes other assignments as required.

  • Interviews and examines patients, reviews past medical history, and requests and/or performs diagnostic tests and examinations deemed necessary to obtain all appropriate information related to each case.
  • Refers patients to appropriate contract medical or other government facilities
  • Responds to acute emergency interventions, working closely in consultation with members of other medical departments as deemed appropriate by the clinical problem.
  • Planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating a comprehensive community health program for the Service Unit.
  • Responsible for Community Health services and service compliance with maintaining standards and accreditation status (Joint Commission, CMS).
  • Develops and implements plans and programs for the improvement or revision of present programs and services to meet the changing needs of the patient population.
  • Manages special Community Health projects and assignments in response to program priorities, community needs, or public health emergencies.
  • Works with tribal groups and community partners for the purpose of promoting overall wellness and understanding of Service Unit health programs.
  • Advises the Community Health Director, other Area and Service Unit personnel on Public Health and Health Promotion priorities, issues and recommended activities.
  • Determines personnel needs and manages available resources to provide optimal public health services.
  • Directly supervises Community Medicine staff including physicians, mid-level providers, nurses, substance abuse specialists, traditional healer, health technicians, motor vehicle operator, and others
  • Organizes and Directs the work of several programs including School- based Health Clinics, Street Medicine, Substance Abuse, Traditional Healing, Women's Health, and Communicable Diseases
