Description
The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will work with physicians and nurses in the practice to provide medical treatment plans for Cardiothoracic patients in the hospital and outpatient setting. Will collaborate with nurse managers, clinical nurses, discharge team, and medical staff to plan, implement and evaluate pertinent change in practice and health care delivery. Will facilitate patient movement through the system and efficient use of resources through interdepartmental collaboration. Will coordinate coverage for time off unit, time off, and off-hours; and will write orders which are in accord with current guidelines.

Job Duties & Essential Functions:

  • Take patient history, perform a physical examination and make an assessment and diagnosis based on this information, as well as, initiate, review and revise treatment plans and record and present data in a manner meaningful to the supervising physician.
  • Provide patient care services to the medical practice.
  • Assist physician with interventional treatments, respond to incoming phone messages from patient and make call backs to patient reporting response to attending physician.
  • Make referrals to other healthcare providers and/or consult the physician for further definitive therapy.
  • Perform Physical examinations; identify health problems based on findings.
  • Order and evaluate appropriate non-invasive diagnostic tests and procedures.
  • Instruct and counsel patients on health care, health maintenance, medical problems, treatment plans, nutrition or other related issues as appropriate.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by management.

    Qualifications
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Nurse Practitioner: Current NYS RN license. Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Nursing or completion of a course for Nurse Practitioner and certification as a Nurse Practitioner in adult health and/or family health nurse practitioner. Excellent communication skills.

    Physician Assistant: NYS license and certification as a Physician Assistant. Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) from an accredited school of Physician Assistants. Excellent communication skills.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Experience working in a fast-paced medical practice. Experience with EMR.
