Introduction

We at the Potomac Center/SETT facility provide quality\r
person-centered supports to adults with intellectual disabilities at our campus\r
in Hagerstown, Maryland. Our aim is to partner with the community to help our residents\r
achieve their goals.\r

The Potomac Center is a 62-bed licensed Intermediate Care\r
Facility (ICF). This program focuses on using therapeutic interventions to\r
empower residents as they learn the skills they need to successfully return to\r
community living.\r
\r
\r
The Secure Evaluation and Therapeutic Treatment (SETT)\r
Program, located within the Potomac Center campus, is a 32-bed licensed\r
Forensic Residential Center that provides services to individuals with\r
intellectual disabilities and court involvement within a safe and secure\r
environment. The program provides assistance as they resolve their court\r
involvement and work toward transitioning to a less secured environment. The\r
SETT utilizes active treatment as well as providing evaluation, assessment and\r
competency attainment education.\r

Main Purpose of Job

This full time contractual position exercises skills in a variety of ways for the benefit of the residents and staff of the Potomac Center.\r
This position performs the advanced level of work in the building and grounds maintenance trades.\r
This position will perform general maintenance tasks such as simple construction, repairs to\r
roadways and walks, routine preventative maintenance, heavy janitorial and general services work. This position devotes the bulk of the work time in the actual performance of maintenance and repair tasks,\r
but on occasion employees may assign work, examine completed work and provide immediate guidance and\r
assistance to a team of unskilled or semi-skilled employees such as Maintenance Mechanics, patient, and\r
janitorial employees.\r
This position receives general supervision from a Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Chief\r
or other designated higher-level maintenance staff.\r
\r
\r
This positions duties are to be carried out at all times pursuant to Center policies; applicable regulations including\r
MOSHA and OSHA; MEMORANDA OF UNDERSTANTDING; Department of Engineering and\r
Maintenance ; and mandated licensure requirements including ADA; State Fire Marshall, Confined Spaces,\r
CMS, DGS, Office of Health Care Quality, Asbestos, ICF/MR and EPA.\r
Position requirements includes: lifting heavy objects; climbing; working under adverse conditions or in tight\r
awkward or cramped spaces; operating machinery; driving; et al.�\r
\r
\r
Therefore, conditions of employment\r
necessarily include certain abilities and capabilities in order to discharge duties and responsibilities in a\r
competent manner, to wit:\r

• Reporting for work per schedule on a regular and continuing basis; and at other time per EMERGENCY\r
position status or upon request or due to Center needs including evening/nights/weekends/holidays;\r

• Performing physically arduous tasks throughout shift;\r

• Working in diverse maintenance areas as lead worker or assistant in either skilled or generalist status;\r

• Working independently and at times with minimal supervision in strict adherence with\r
instructions/recommendations and Unit practices; and\r

• Operating vehicles/machinery/tools per all applicable directives\r
\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:�� Eighth grade. \r
Experience: Four years of experience in any combination of the maintenance trades, three years must be in the trades of electricity, plumbing, steam fitting, refrigeration or air conditioning. \r
Notes: \r
1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in any of the maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required education. \r
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a degree from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a major in Building Maintenance or a related field�for up to three years of the required general experience.\r
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair�classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in�any combination of maintenance trades, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.\r

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.\r
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.\r
