TheWorld Bank Climate Change Action Plan outlines the institution'scollective response to align financial flows with the goals of the Paris Agreement(referred to as "Paris Alignment" or "PA").

Under the Action Plan,
IFChascommitted to align 85% of new operations with the goals of Paris Agreement byJuly 1, 2023, and 100% of these by July 1, 2025, and to achieve at least 35% ofits investments in climate positive activities.


IFC's Climate BusinessDepartment (CBD) works across the organization and beyond to implement theClimate Change Action Plan and deliver on Paris Alignment.

To deliver onits priorities, CBD's Climate Capacity & Inclusion Accelerator (CBDCI) teamengages with staff, clients and partners to raise global and internal knowledgeand capacity to unlock private investment around select thematics includingsustainable finance (Green Bonds, Sustainability Bonds, Sustainability-linkedfinance, Transition Finance, etc.); Biodiversity and Nature Finance; andcircular economy (business models that reduce the use of virgin materials,maximize the use and retained value of materials along the production andconsumption value chain, and reduce waste and pollution).

Biodiversityconsiderations are an integral part of how
IFCconducts business.

IFC isexpanding its approach from screening projects for biodiversity risk to alsohelp identify investments that could generate positive outcomes for nature andto scale biodiversity finance in emerging economies.

In 2022,
IFCdeveloped thefirst-of-its-kind Biodiversity Finance Reference Guide, outlining investmentactivities and project characteristics that support the transition tonature-smart production practices that protect biodiversity and ecosystemservices and help meet the targets of the Kunming-MontrealGlobal Biodiversity Framework.


IFCis developing new investment projects andfinancial products, as well as sector-specific approaches to integratebiodiversity co-benefits into projects.


IFC is also collaborating closely withother institutions across the World Bank Group and other MultilateralDevelopment Banks (MBDs) to scale investments for biodiversity and nature.

Forexample,
IFCjointly with other institutions of the World Bank Group developed a Nature Finance TrackingMethodology to be applied across all institutions of the World Bank Group to identify andreport on nature finance, starting from July 1, 2024.

IFC, as part of the WBG, signed a Joint Statement on Nature, People and Planet, committing Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) to mainstreamnature into their operations and contributed to developing the MDB Common Principles for Tracking Nature-Positive Finance.

IFC also contributes toa broader global movement to reverse and halt nature loss.

For example, bothIFC and the World Bank were members of the informal working group that shapedthe Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), a globalframework that enables companies and financial institutions to integrate natureinto their decision-making, and continue to support its implementation.


CBDCI is seeking an analyst (GE) tosupport the development and growth of
IFCBiodiversity and Nature FinanceBusiness as a new area of investment opportunity and to meet IFC's climate commitments.

This position is based in Washington, D.C.

Duties and Accountabilities

The Analyst will be a core member of the CBDCI team reporting to IFC's Global Biodiversity Lead

Specific accountabilities will include:

  • Support team lead on updates to the Biodiversity Finance Reference Guide and production of supplemental materials, including drafting text, editing, proofreading, coordinating with the designer, and supporting dissemination activities.
  • Contribute to technical research and development of user-friendly resources for
    IFCinvestment teams on nature-based solutions in infrastructure.
  • Contribute to the biodiversity and nature finance team's work to implement the World Bank Group Nature Finance Tracking Methodology, including support and coordination with other teams within CBD, industries, collaboration with CEG staff, and creation of case studies socializing nature finance projects internally at IFC.
  • Support the biodiversity and nature finance team for preparation for key global events (e.g. New York Climate Week, World Bank-IMF Annual Meetings, Biodiversity COPs, Climate COPs) including contributing to the design of events, creating event briefs, talking points, and any related tasks that emerge.
  • Collaborate with CBD's event and relevant industry staff to hold biodiversity and nature finance events both internally and externally, including creating agendas, run of shows, coordinating with speakers, creating PowerPoints, reviewing and sending invitations, and drafting summaries of events.
  • In collaboration with CBD's knowledge management team, contribute to the maintenance and expansion of the internet and intranet page for biodiversity and nature finance to disseminate knowledge products to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the creation and operation of
    IFCbiodiversity and nature finance knowledge network, including organization of meetings, lining up internal and external speakers, and capturing follow up actions.
  • Provide quality inputs on knowledge sharing material, thematic briefings, talking points, speeches, PowerPoints and analytical/strategic documents related to biodiversity and nature finance, and nature-based solutions.
  • Support team lead with procurement related activities, including identification of relevant consulting firms or vendors, coordinate closely with the procurement team to create, maintain and close contracts, and be the point of contact with vendors for contracting related queries.
  • Support the team in developing future potential nature finance advisory offerings and donor fundraising.
  • Carry out additional ad hoc tasks as assigned.
Selection Criteria

  • Master's degree in a relevant field such as international affairs, sustainable finance, business, environmental or public policy, etc.
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in areas related to climate, sustainable finance, and development finance. Work in areas of biodiversity and nature finance, nature-based solutions, or other relevant topics is preferred.
  • Outstanding time and project management, analytical, research, writing, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to engage across functional and sectoral boundaries to identify common solutions to thematic challenges.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and respond quickly to urgent requests and shifting priorities.
  • Ability to work well in a small dynamic, start-up like team setting.
  • Experience at a Development Finance Institution focusing on the private sector capital mobilization is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
