POSITION SUMMARY:

The Administrative Faculty is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. In addition to teaching, curriculum development, student advisement, and other academic responsibilities, this position has the responsibility of coordinating the Marriage & Family Therapy (MFT) African American Family Studies (AAFS) specialization. This position requires demonstration of African American cultural knowledge, clinical skills in therapeutic work with the African American population, and educational background in Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT), or Counseling.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

The incumbent normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work and receives general instructions on new assignments.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Minimal or no supervisory responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*:

Teach a minimum of 18 units per academic year in the MA MFT, Cultural & Family Studies, Bachelor and Master of Social Work, and Community Psychology programs;Coordinate, plan, organize, and instruct courses in the evening, or on weekends on any Pacific Oaks College campus as assigned, including the synchronous online modality;Ensure that each program/class contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and maintains currency;Advise and mentor graduate students in MA MFT AAFS program and graduate students in the other MA MFT and CFS programs;Assist in recruitment, pre-registration, registration and retention of students;Make suggestions to the Dean concerning the improvement of the AAFS curriculum in keeping with the objectives of the college;Participate in program, curriculum review and development, and student learning outcomes initiatives;Participate in the recruitment, mentoring and evaluation of adjunct instructors in the AAFS specialization;Attend all faculty meetings, professional development, MA MFT & CFS orientation activities and other meetings established by Dean;Other duties as assigned by the Dean. Is regular attendance an essential function? ☒ Yes ☐ No ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: Knowledge: Knowledge about the African American culture and mental health need of African American families.Knowledge and an understanding of the socio-political issues that impact African American communities.Knowledge about trauma and trauma treatment related to the African American population.Knowledge in qualitative research methods in general and in specifics related to the African American population and familiarity with the research literature related to the African American population.Knowledge of current trends in African American mental health, community mental health, and new approaches to instruction via professional development activities.Knowledge about African American communities and experience working with African American populations. Skills: Ability to teach MA MFT & CFS courses at the graduate level both On-ground and Online.Demonstrated ability to teach non-traditional, English as a second language graduate students.Demonstrated bicultural/cultural competencies in community work and teaching;Demonstrated psychological awareness in trending modalities.Demonstrated competencies such as collegiality, collaboration, ability to motivate others, ability to balance independent and inter-dependent academic responsibilities;Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, together with the ability to work collaboratively and courteously with colleagues, alumni, and other constituents.Knowledge of current technology and methods for disseminating web assisted information. Abilities: Demonstrated teaching philosophy that is culture-centered, student-centered, reflective, and fosters a democratic classroom for a participatory learning community.Maintain active engagement in communities as part of ongoing community service for the college. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Credential/License: PsyD or Ph.D. in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or MFT, or closely related clinical field from an accredited university/college required.Licensed as a Marriage & Family Therapist (preferred), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Psychologist in the state of California. Experience: A minimum of 5 years' experience combination of clinical work or professional community psychology related experience.3 years teaching as fulltime in a college or university setting preferred; or combination of adjunct, or part-time considered. The office temperature is about 70 degrees. DECISION MAKING: The position is governed by the policies of Pacific Oaks, along with established procedures for the department. Independent judgment is required in the supervision of personnel as well as in the carrying out of the department's strategic goals and budget management. CONTACT RESPONSIBILITIES: Routine exchange or presentation of information. Responsible for demonstrating professionalism and leadership in resolving conflicts with students and employees. Recommends alternative approaches to solve problems and conflicts. FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: This position does require the management of budgets, but it is required to follow Pacific Oaks policies for purchasing and budget approvals.
