Note: Roles are posted at the lowest level of a band, however, employees should search across all levels of the band to identify all opportunities. Join the energetic and growing TSMS Organization (API Network TSMS) that supports a diverse portfolio of medicines essential to our patients around the world. The API Network TS/MS Principal Scientist for Oligonucleotides will provide technical and scientific expertise within a dynamic manufacturing organisation in the development of the commercialisation of the siRNA portfolio. The Principal Scientist for Oligonucleotides will be required to build deep technical expertise in their area of responsibility (including in-depth knowledge of the science behind the molecule and the process), have a strong working knowledge of the proposed manufacturing equipment set and control systems, and consistently demonstrate strong data-driven decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.

The successful candidate will initially focus on working very closely with our development organization in Indianapolis, building technical depth and expertise in the synthesis and purification of oligonucleotides. As the commercialization strategy evolves, the candidate will engage in developing the technology transfer approach to manufacturing facilities, with critical integration in cross functional teams.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

Work directly with our Development organization in the advancement of the oligonucleotide process understanding and development with commercialization end point in mind.Understand the purpose and science of the process; have an in-depth knowledge of the science (including analytical) behind the molecule and the process.Become proficient in laboratory scale synthesis of products, completing appropriate studies to support manufacturing scale knowledge and facility fit requirements.Understand the process control strategy for oligonucleotide products.Build technical understanding of the manufacturing process as it nears transfer to the manufacturing site. Understanding the scientific principles required for manufacturing intermediates and drug substances, including the interaction of chemistry and equipment.Ensure proper characterization of processes and products and ensure effective documentation of the process description, measures, acceptable ranges, and specifications (and the justification of these measures, acceptable ranges, and specifications).In manufacturing setting, provide technical oversight and stewardship for oligonucleotide manufacturing processes as they undergo technology transfer to commercial sites.Understand and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory expectationsLead resolution of technical issues including those related to control strategy and facility fit.Interpret complex technical challenges and partner with TSMS counterparts in other buildings/areas to design and/or execute experiments that enhance understanding of the manufacturing processes, qualify new raw materials, aid manufacturing investigations, and increase process robustness and productivity while maintaining product qualityWork as part of cross-functional teams, and establish partnerships with applicable functions, operations and development to understand interface between the science/engineering with the operations on the floor and bring deep technical expertise to the team.Employ excellent communication skills to manage internal and external relationships.Build and maintain relationships with development and central technical organizations.Operate with 'Team Lilly' in mind - including coaching and mentoring of peers and other scientists. Basic Requirements: Educational Requirements: MSc or PhD in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline (Chemistry/Biochemistry strongly preferred)Strong synthetic organic chemistry or purification experience at lab and/or manufacturing scale.Preferentially, experience in oligonucleotide or synthetic peptide processes in a research or manufacturing setting.
