OPPD's Utility Operations is looking for a Leader to join their team

The Manager Station Operations lead personnel in the safe, efficient, reliable and economically responsible operation and fuel management needs of OPPD¿s Nebraska City Station / North Omaha Station. Implement Production Operations policies and all related working procedures to ensure compliance with applicable environmental, safety and operating relations, as well as achieve and maintain the highest quality of customer service satisfaction. Responsible for the design and adherence/enforcement to all cross-functional service relationships within Utility Operations and across OPPD. Engage with peers across OPPD and within the industry to identify and collaborate on initiatives to strengthen OPPD as an industry leader, employer of choice, and a community partner. Represent OPPD and the Station across OPPD and serves as the Station¿s representative to the local community.

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

  1. Build and maintain a competent/capable team of Leaders, Operators and Material Handling employees in alignment with OPPD¿s Accountable Management System (AMS) guidelines.
  • Effectively apply OPPD¿s Managerial Leadership Practices (MLPs) (i.e.: Management Accountabilities, Talent Inventory, Succession Planning, Organizational Performance Planning, Clarity Building, etc.) for assigned staff.
  • Develop and implement Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for all direct reports targeting: specific performance gaps necessary to fulfill the work of the Role, any currently assigned Key Accountabilities (KAs), or any special assignments designed to enhance the effectiveness of Role, Department, Division, etc. (Completed Annually)
  • Develop and maintain a set of staff performance metrics that support OPPD mission and broader goals defined in our Corporate Strategic Directives.
  • Reinforce, monitor and hold subordinates accountable for the effective application of OPPD¿s Manager Leadership Practices.
  • Oversee and lead the development and implementation of Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for High Potential Skip-level-Reports (SLRs)). Ensure designed plans prepare the individual to successfully assume work/role(s) as a direct report either within organizational scope or across departmental, divisional, or BU lines. (As Required)
    1. Accountable to develop and implement plans and programs (1-2 years in scope) to achieve OPPD and Utility Operations strategic objectives and to deliver desired outputs and assigned KAs.
  • Lead the design, integration and ownership of processes, policies and practices utilized within assigned scope of control.
  • Identify and design plans for key touch points in the various Station functions that need to be addressed with process and technology enhancements, including systemic weaknesses and strengths in energy production and fuel management.
  • Approve the priority assigned for work at the Station and ensure that operating risks and system deficiencies have defined mitigating action plans.
  • Engage with and provide support to direct report teams and team members, offering influence on decisions and outcomes that align with the Utility Operations business unit strategic direction, as well as Station objectives and initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain a set of Station performance metrics (Past vs. Present and Predictive). Monitor, adjust as needed, track, and develop executive reporting and analysis as scheduled.
  • Engage with/Support subordinate teams / team members to influence decisions and outcome alignment with strategic direction.
  • Identify and design plans for key initiatives across the generating fleet that need to be addressed with process and technology enhancements including pain points or systemic weaknesses and strengths in energy production and fuel management.
    1. Engage with/Support direct report team to influence decisions and outcome alignment with Utility Operation¿s strategic direction ¿ Safety, Employee Trust and Development, Operational Excellence and Business Transformation
    2. Lead operations personnel to ensure that the plant and related generating and auxiliary equipment is operated in a safe, regulatory compliant, efficient and continuous manner in accordance with established written procedures, equipment specifications and proper engineering practices.
    3. Implement and maintain an effective operational logging as well as a tagging program to ensure the safe and resilient operations of the site¿s facilities.
    4. Collaborate with Training to ensure operational shift personnel are available for training, that newly hired personnel complete required progress in accordance with established procedures, and continual operator training (COT) standards are elevated based new event learnings and any physical changes to the facility.
    5. Review of facility operations to detect and correct potential safety hazards and lead mitigating efforts by ensuring proper team ownership and action.
    6. Accountable for activities of shift workers at the facility and having properly prepared response plans for normal working and back shift hours for the station.
    7. Responsible for supporting development of station staffing and change management plans, which will drive a future ready posture for the facility with regards to OPPD¿s Powering the Future vision and strategic initiatives.
    Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences, equivalent work experience may be applied to satisfy this technical background requirement.
  • Must have ten (10) or more years of relevant power plant experience.
  • Must have five (5) or more years of experience in leadership, and managerial skills including planning, organizing, delegating, and employee development.
  • Demonstrated previous work experience effectively overseeing the coordination and execution of maintenance, operational activities, or projects.
  • Must have a strong, demonstrated commitment to personnel safety and human performance tool usage.
  • Must have a proven history and ability to communicate, engage and motivate teams to achieve long term goals, while exhibiting the ability to lead through periods of significant change.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office suite of products Desired:
