Major Duties and Responsibilities:


The Interventional Radiology Technologist operates various types of imaging equipment in the Interventional Radiology Department, Operating Room 6, and Pain Clinic Lab (D314).

This equipment includes Philips Azurion single plane and bi-plane labs and Siemens Artis Zee single plane labs. The Interventional Technologist has the overall responsibility for the coordination and performance of the Interventional/Angiography labs.

He/She works closely with the Interventional Radiologists, Vascular Surgeons, Pain Management Physicians, and Radiology Nurses to assure efficient coordination of procedures, quality diagnostic/therapeutic exam results, optimum quality control, and veteran satisfaction.

The Interventional Technologist will operate the following ancillary equipment:

Fujifilm Sonosite PX ultrasounds, Medrad Mark 7 Arterion power injectors, Siemens Acuson SC 2000 Intra-Cardiac Echo (ICE), and Boston Scientific Spyglass.

He/she will also assist in the operation of Penumbra Indigo Thrombectomy System, Inari Thrombectomy System, and Shockwave Intravascular Lithotripsy.

INTERVENTIONAL TECHNOLOGIST RESPONSIBILITIES
Independently interpret requests or instruction made by Interventional Radiologist, Vascular Surgeons, and Pain Management Physicians.
Explain procedures to veterans and family members.
Prepare procedure lab(s), equipment, and material needed for procedures.
Register patients to generate accession numbers needed for workstation(s) and image archiving in PACS
Transfer patients from stretcher to radiographic examination table, utilizing safe patient handling techniques and devices when necessary.
Position veterans for various procedures in Interventional Radiology labs and Pain lab.
Observe patients during procedures and report complications or unusual events.
Post process images and archive to PACS
Provide accurate CPT coding for Interventional Radiology Procedures
Maintain clean work area and adequate level of supplies in assigned lab.
Act in a professional, cooperative manner towards patients and coworkers.

Adheres to hospital infection control and safety policies/techniques with emphasis on sterile technique; the storage of sterile supplies; the disposal of sharps and bodily fluids.

Utilizes sterile technique to scrub-in for the preparation of procedure tables and to assist Interventionalist performing exams.
Must continuously be alert to anticipate needs of the procedure being performed.

Perform image reconstructions on advanced workstations (i.e., Cone Beam CT, Vessel Navigator, Embo Guidance, Needle Guidance) - Must be available for on-call rotation.

Practice radiation safety in order to reduce exposure by using lead aprons, lead gloves, lead shields, collimation, proper technique/frame rates.

Assure compliance to radiation safety by wearing film badges.
