About the job:

The Pharmacy Technician Business Manager conducts the interview process, evaluation process, establishing schedules, and adjusting/communicating assignments for certified technician and other pharmacy business personnel; is the supervising leader of pharmacy technical business practices associated with procurement, inventory management, medication billing and reimbursement process flows for the region.

What we are looking for:

  • Education: High School or GED required; Associate's degree preferred
  • Licensure / Certification: Approved Pharmacy Technician Certification. Active registration as a Certified Tech with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy
  • Experience: 2-year minimum experience, 3-5 years of experience in hospital pharmacy preferred. Supply chain and inventory management experience.
  • Ability to delegate and oversee critical pharmacy business functions such as procurement, reconciliation, billing, reimbursement through reporting personnel effectively
  • Ability to review business processes for cost optimization across areas of responsibility
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in accordance with Policies, Standard Operation Procedures, and State Laws
  • Must be able to work in a stressful and fast paced environment
  • Must be physically able to perform strenuous activity such as lifting, pushing, and repetitive movement.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for procurement, manufacturing, and storage of pharmaceuticals (FDA, 503B, DEA etc.)
  • Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of supervision and onboarding
  • Thorough experience in all pharmacy operational areas; proficiency with internet based applications
  • Excel and analytic software experience
  • Demonstrates attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness to continually improve quality and safety
  • Knowledge in 340B regulations, operations, and performance
  • Must be able to lead enterprise-wide operational teams
  • Experience in regionalized communications and working with interdisciplinary and intradisciplinary teams
  • Experience in contract management, evaluation, compliance, terms resolution and maintenance
  • Experience in implementing pharmacy technology
  • Experience in medication portfolio management
  • Experience in inventory management and technology solutions for inventory management
  • Experience in state and federal medication distribution programs

What you will do:

  • Manages certified pharmacy technicians and other pharmacy business personnel associated with procurement, inventory management, medication billing, reimbursement, and related business process flows within region or assigned areas.
  • Financial
    • Regional oversight of all medication procurement, aggregate inventory, financial reporting associated with medication costs and spend, and inventory management strategies within region or assigned areas. Responsible for ongoing procurement cost reduction initiatives.
  • Quality and Safety
    • Calibration of compounding equipment as needed
    • Maintains high level of quality assurance
    • Escalates all quality and safety concerns according to policy
    • Responsible for complete and accurate required documentation in accordance with policy and regulatory entities
  • Environment
    • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe patient and work environment
    • Maintains an understanding of readying room temperature and pressure monitors for Environment Compliance in accordance with USP Chapters 797 & 800
    • Maintains knowledge of different medication classes and special handling requirements according to policies and standard operating procedures
  • Initiative
    • Responsible for Professional Development and own education
    • Shares duties of absent staff members as needed
    • Cost effective utilization of supplies and resources
    • Attends departmental meetings
    • Maintains working knowledge of standard operating procedures and standard work instructions
    • Maintains working knowledge of Pharmacy related USP Chapter Updates
  • Technology - utilizes software systems appropriately and demonstrates continuous learning
  • Maintains vendor communication, relations, and compliance Oversee technician training, development, including identification and correction of deficiencies
  • Reviews and assists with the establishment of operational policies and standard work instructions
  • Assists with monitoring regulatory compliance (quality assurance, safety, USP 797/800, USP 795, joint commission standards, Ohio State Board of Pharmacy rules etc)
  • Performs department meetings and performance oversight to direct reports
