Charlotte Technical Center - Charlotte, NC

This position has the primary responsibility of supporting the development of functional polymer dispersions for the Construction markets (roof coating, air weather barrier, flooring adhesives and infrastructure asphalt modification).

During your dayshift as a Research Technician II, you will

Job Expectations:

  • Work on projects in the product development lab to evaluate experimental polymers in screening studies and in industry relevant application tests. The goal is to advance technical understanding of experimental polymer performance intended for commercialization into the paint or construction market.
  • In a team with other technicians, the individual will need to:
    • Perform experiments following instructions set by the research scientist
    • Make keen observations and be cognizant of opportunities
    • Adjust experimentation and problem solve as needed
    • Report results in a coherent and understandable manner
  • Acquire a working knowledge of formulation practices and of application test methods typical for the paint and construction industries.
  • Perform maintenance on lab equipment and calibration activities required to maintain ISO compliance.
  • Serve within a laboratory team in such activities as equipment repairs, including interfacing with manufacturers, contractors and site facilities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Chemistry or related sciences and relevant lab experience OR Associates degree in Chemistry or related sciences and 1 year of relevant lab experience OR High School diploma and 4 years of relevant lab experience
  • Waterborne formulation practices and testing experience for various applications
  • Use of basic computer skills and be comfortable with MS Outlook, MS Word and MS Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the testing of coatings for various applications
  • Experience in working with waterborne polymers and formulations
  • Experience and knowledge of paint and construction industry relevant application tests
