Position Description

Provides support to Neurology faculty in the treatment of patients and teaching of residents.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Measures patient's head and other body parts and marks points where electrodes are to be placed.
  • Attaches electrodes to predetermined locations, and verifies functioning of electrodes and recording instrument.
  • Operates recording instruments and supplemental equipment and chooses settings for optimal viewing of nervous system.
  • Performs long term monitoring for seizure patients and prints out hard copy for physician review.
  • Cleans and maintains neurodiagnostic machines. Ensures machines work properly and are checked regularly to ensure proper function.
  • Conducts visual, auditory, and somatosensory evoked potential response tests to measure latency of response to stimuli.
  • Records montage (electrode combination) and instrument settings, and observes and notes patient's behavior during test.
  • Performs EEG, NCV, Neuromuscular ultrasound, and other physiological tests such as electrocardiogram, electrooculogram, autonomic function and ambulatory electroencephalogram.
  • Maintains confidential files, records and financial data pertaining to assigned area of work.
  • Establishes and maintains positive customer relationships with faculty, residents, students, staff, and other internal and external contacts.
  • Coordinates neurodiagnostic reports to the requesting provider via the EMR system, US mail, fax and/or email.
  • May schedule or reschedule patients for neurodiagnostic tests. Manages scheduling conflicts and monitors room utilization. Works, as needed, with physician, Lead Neurodiagnostic Technician and Administrator to resolve conflicts. Manage incoming Neurodiagnostic referrals..
  • Researches and provides information on technical trends. Advise on options, risks, costs vs. benefits, impact on other business processes and system priorities.
  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Promote, assess, and evaluate the educational needs and requirements specific to your job discipline.
Occasional Duties

Is proactive/responsive to any other duties as assigned by superiors.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; two years related experience OR one year as a Neurodiagnostic Technologist Assistant in the HSC Neurodiagnostic Technologist Career Track.

Preferred Qualifications

Preparation for American Board of Registration of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists (ABRET) registry with intent to register within 2 years after eligibility preferred.
