An Overview
A Family Services Specialist II - Fatherhood Specialist provides intensive, culturally competent social work services to individuals and families. Fatherhood outreach and support is a specialized area of social work practice that ensures the role and relationship of fathers in their lives of their children is valued, understood, and respected as unique and central to a child's sense of themselves, their cultural heritage, and well-being. Services are focused on removing barriers to responsible fatherhood while helping fathers gain support to build strong parenting skills that respect family and community culture.
The goal of fatherhood in child welfare services at Alexandria DCHS is to support fathers in their role of providing and maintaining safety, stability, permanency, family connection, and well-being to their children. Alexandria DCHS utilizes a racial equity approach in all work with families. The services are individualized, strength based, trauma informed, collaborative, and community based.
