Vaco Richmond is assisting a long-standing, reputable client of ours in Richmond, VA with its search for anAssistant Controller

The position will report to the Corporate Controller and manage an accounting team of 8-10 associates.

In addition to the responsibilities listed below, they would ideally like this person to be overseeing all other aspects of accounting within a few years.

The accounting/finance team has a great culture and they are working a hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist Controller in review of daily and monthly bank reconciliations, vendor payments, and month end financial statements.
  • Oversee debt service process.
  • Oversee and prepare month end financial journal entries.
  • Oversee and manage relationship with external auditors
  • Review year-end fixed asset and monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Review monthly inventory reconciliations.
  • Review and assist with preparation of year-end tax workpapers.
  • Review property tax returns.
  • Review and schedule replacement reserve requests.
  • Assist with financial reporting during the close and post-close process for dispositions and acquisitions
  • Oversee investment account reconciliation.
  • Provide assistance and training to team members.
  • Special projects assigned by the controller.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related
  • CPA or MBA required
  • 7+ years of experience in accounting
  • Prior supervisory experience with ability to lead, motivate, support, and manage
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent project management skills including experience with project management software
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with all levels of staff and upper management.
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Ability to multi-task, stay organized and anticipate the needs of the team in a dynamic environment
