Summary: Queens University is seeking an engaging and dynamic leader who has a passion for building Jewish community to become our Director of Hillel/Jewish Life at Queens. Charlotte is one of the fastest growing cities in our country and we aspire to mirror that growth in our Jewish Life and interfaith programs at Queens. Our Director of Hillel/Jewish Life will have oversight and leadership of our Jewish Life program on campus. We seek a leader with the skills to connect, engage, motivate, and inspire a diverse Jewish population; to collaborate with admissions to actively participate in Jewish student recruiting (including modest travel to selected target communities); develop key strategic relationships in the community and on campus, and support the development of financial resources to advance the mission of Hillel in inspiring Jewish students to make an enduring commitment to Jewish life. The Director of Hillel/Jewish Life will work within the Queens University Belk Chapel as part of Spiritual Life Team supporting and developing interfaith bridges and will work with the Diversity Inclusion and Community Engagement Department, the Student Life Division and the Stan Greenspon Holocaust and Social Justice Education Center to support Queens' commitment to welcoming all people and nurturing relationships among people of different religious word views. This person will challenge and nurture students, faculty, and staff to deepen their faith as well as their commitment to seeking justice in our word.

The Director of Hillel/Jewish Life reports directly to the University Chaplain. The Campus Rabbi will provide support as an advisor on religious programming and on bridge building with the regional Jewish community. This position is exempt from provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible to earn overtime pay or compensatory time off for additional hours worked. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

Academic Technology

Engage with Jewish students consistently to ensure a pluralistic and welcoming environment for all and maintain a visible Jewish presence on campus.
Promote and facilitate a diverse and meaningful programming agenda; Develop relationships with students by meeting them where they are: Understand, listen to, and show compassion for a broad range of students, involved and uninvolved; Identify, engage and nurture students to assume leadership at all levels; Serve a liaison with Hillel student leaders in the development of programming.
Support the Office of the Chaplain in creating service opportunities for Queens' students
Support the Office of the Chaplain team in hosting Presbyterian and Pluralist week, bringing a diversity of learning opportunities to the Queens community in line with our goal of creating safe and brave spaces in which faculty, staff and students critically and openly engage with diverse religious, spiritual and secular practices and traditions.
Work closely with the office of Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement (DICE) to further expand and enhance collaboration in the realm of religious and spiritual diversity.
Create bridges with the local and national Jewish community.
Partner with Hillel International to ensure that the Hillel incubates initiatives and remains committed to the global vision of the Hillel movement.
Other duties as determined in collaboration with the University Chaplain.
Serve as the Jewish recruitment liaison to the undergraduate admissions team. This includes:
Developing an understanding of the Queens experience in order to articulate the full Queens experience to all prospective students
Coordinate learning opportunities (2x/year) for the admissions team to gain greater awareness of Jewish life on campus
In partnership with the undergraduate admissions team, develop a list of high priority schools, congregations and community leaders to engage (through visits, conversations, newsletters, etc.) in order to broaden and deepen Queens' connections with the Jewish community
Participate in admissions recruitment and yield events as needed
This work will include some overnight travel (2x per year), some evening work (1x/month) and some weekend work (6x/per year)
Non-Essential Duties:

Other duties and special projects may be assigned to meet department and University needs.
Qualifications
Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required:

2-5 years of experience organizing programs and facilitating conversations relating to Hillel/Jewish Life.
Ability to demonstrate a deep faith and an open and inclusive spirit
Experience working with college students and a university setting
Demonstrated appreciation for the value of interfaith understanding and cooperation
Experience guiding emerging adults in faith and moral development
Ability to develop and implement creative, visionary programs
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to establish and meet goals and deadlines
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university or the equivalent in experience and education.
Master's degree or advanced degree in Jewish studies, student affairs, higher education, counseling or a related field preferred.
