The Position

The Associate Director, Scientific Analytics leads and delivers dynamic and reliable analytics products and services by leveraging internal and external data to enable faster decision making across Novo Nordisk; and contributes to the growth, competitiveness, and innovation of the company. Leads medical analytics and information management activities. Develops and executes strategies to identify and fulfil complex information needs company-wide using advanced techniques, methodologies, and technologies in text-mining, natural language processing, data mining, machine learning, and data visualization. Possibly manages and leads a line of business of Scientific Analytics, such as a Data Analytics, Data Science, or Data Support team.

Relationships

This position reports the head of Scientific Analytics and functions as an analytics specialist in the Scientific Analytics department. Collaborates closely with teams in departments throughout the organization, including Medical Affairs, Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR), Clinical Trial Management, Market Development & healthcare professional (HCP) Engagement, as well as with other GLIA units globally. May also mentor Analytics interns and oversee projects with external vendors. If requested, this position also manages a small team of data analytics experts.

Essential Functions

  • Works closely with stakeholders to identify data analytics opportunities, determine appropriate datasets and algorithms, identify patterns and formulate solutions, experiment and deliver analytics and models
  • Drives the development and delivery of innovative data and analytics solutions and services response to business requirements and priorities for CMR
  • Explores and introduces new data driven approaches to generating insights and solutions to address business issues
  • Works with other data analysts, IT and data engineers to acquire and transform datasets that deliver critical business insights
  • Defines and creates metrics that can be leveraged by CMR analysts to deliver insights to their stakeholders
  • Oversees full time colleagues, consultants and/or contractors as needed to deliver patient insights (patient finding, patient journey, etc.). Build data pipelines to manage production models and deliver results to stakeholders as needed
  • Serving as an internal expert on advanced analytics and statistical analysis in support of organization-wide project and programs. Maintains knowledge of "best practices" in patient and data analytics, real-world data, data science, and related topics
  • Provides guidance and QC oversight to more junior team members, and colleagues in other CMR areas in use and delivery of analytics and analytical tools

    Physical Requirements

    0-10% overnight travel required. May on occasion be required to work &/or travel on weekends &/or company holidays.

    Development of People

    Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process.

    Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility.

    Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.

    Qualifications
    • 10-12 years relevant analytics experience required (pharma industry experience preferred); appropriate education may be substituted for some years of experience
    • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required. Finance, Business, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related quantitative field required
    • A Master's degree or PhD in a relevant field (statistics, economics, etc.) is preferred
    • Strong analytical, negotiation, cross-functional team and leadership skills required
    • Demonstrated ability to manage a portfolio of technologies, including planning, prioritization, support, and maintenance
    • Experience delivering patient insights and related models, particularly applying data analytics techniques
    • Demonstrated experience providing direct user support and leading training initiatives
    • Proven ability to easily grasp and master new software and hardware technologies
    • Excellent communications skills (verbal, written, presentation) in English and customer service focus
    • Foundational skills in designing and implementing innovation/improvement initiatives, including the required change management
    • Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation skills
    • Advanced skills in text mining, data mining, information visualization concepts and tools preferred
    • Proficient in working with cloud analytics platforms (Amazon Web Services) and data science tools (Python, R, Knime, Tableau, Qlik, NLP tools, etc.)
    • Solid understanding of basic statistics
    • Subject matter understanding in one or more disease areas of interest to Novo Nordisk preferred
    • Experience in people management preferred
