Under direction and supervision of the Manager of Parks & Recreation, the Recreation Assistant assists in the planning, organizing and supervision of all Recreation and Parks programming, athletic activities, facility usage and activities for the community.

Must be able to work holidays, weekends, and nights.
Essential Duties and

Responsibilities:

The following duties are normal for this position.

Other duties may be required and assigned.
Assists in program development through working with staff, instructors, and independent contractors.
Monitor's safety and security of program participants and recreational facilities.
Inspects and completes reports on all park and facility activities Unlocks and locks/secures all park facilities (gates, restrooms, concessions, pool, etc.)
and ensures field lights are on/off as needed for recreational functions in all parks.
Plans, coordinates, and assists in conducting various youth/adult sport and aquatics activities and events.
Assists in supervising volunteers and officials involved in programs.

Schedules and supervises use of Active/Passive Parks and facilities for activities; including, coordinating activities related to facility rental, processing reservation permits, assessing and collecting fees, as appropriate.

Monitors for compliance with city/department rules and regulations.

Promotes recreation program activities, special events in the community and facilities; assists in the preparation of marketing materials including flyers, promotional material, and announcements.

Performs general maintenance tasks as needed, including but not limited to grounds maintenance, disposes of litter, removes debris from grounds, empties trash containers, cleans and maintains restrooms, prepares clay and turf areas for game play, drags and grooms baseball and softball fields, measures, marks, lays out, and paints playing fields; lines, and chalks ball fields; and performs other maintenance tasks.

Attends meetings, workshops, and training and safety sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas Responds to citizens' questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner Minimum

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED Ability to perform multiple and concurrent tasks, often under time constraints/deadlines and/or in an environment of frequent interruptions One year of customer service experience Preferred

Qualifications:

Experience in recreation, public works, or municipal government environment desired Knowledge of the City of Doraville and surrounding areas Bilingual/Spanish speaking preferred Other Requirements:
Applicant must clear a criminal background check and fingerprinting.
Applicant must pass a mandatory drug screen test.
CPR/ First Aid Certification or must become certified no later than 90 days from date of hire Must be able to work holidays, weekends, and nights Possess a valid Georgia driver's license with a clean driving record with no major infractions Regular and consistent attendance is required At-Will Employment:
