MHealth Fairview/Lions Children's Hearing & ENT Clinic is seeking a Doctor of Audiology (AuD) student for a full time (12 month), pediatric-focused 4th year externship. Our goal is to prepare you to feel confident and competent to begin a career in pediatric audiology.

Lions Children's Hearing & ENT Clinic has 6 full time audiologists and provides a full range of audiology services for birth to age 21 including: diagnostic hearing evaluations, electrophysiology, hearing aids, bone conduction devices and cochlear implants.

Additionally, we work closely with the 9 audiologists at the Clinics and Surgery Center that provides a full range of audiology services for adults including: diagnostic hearing evaluations, vestibular assessment, electrophysiology, cochlear implants, hearing aids and osseo-integrated devices.

We are excited to again have the unique opportunity to include a short rotation of this externship in the adult outpatient clinic. We believe this gives the extern a wide range of experience in adjusting to different age populations.

Interested individuals should be flexible, highly motivated, self-directed and possess a strong interest in working with children.

End date- end of May 2026

  • One or more pediatric clinical placements
  • Mastery in otoscopy, tympanometry, reflex testing, air and bone conduction
  • Experience with VRA and CPA as primary and secondary tester
  • Experience with hearing aid selection, fitting and verification using real-ear measures
  • Experience with electrophysiologic assessment
  • Strong writing skills

MHealth Fairview hosts a nationally recognized audiology expert once a year for a full day of continuing education at no charge to the extern. Monthly cochlear implant and hearing aids trainings/meetings also occur throughout the year. Start Date: 06/02/2025

One mile from peds clinic to the adult clinic just for the rotation there. Local students preferred: No

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship: *Otoscopy
*Tympanometry and reflex testing
*Experience with VRA and CPA as primary and secondary tester
*Experience with hearing aid selection, fitting and verification using real-ear measurements
*Experience with electrophysiologic assessment Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship: *Independence in working with children and their families from initial testing to recommendations and follow through with other providers/school team
*Independence in VRA, CPA, OAE and ABR testing and interpretation
*Independence in hearing aid troubleshooting, selection, fitting and verification
*Competence in cochlear implant candidacy and programming
*Competence in applying critical thinking to outcomes-based management of patients. Clinical opportunities that will be given to the extern:
