Responsibilities

Responsibilities

Under the Director or designee the staff nurse provides and documents goals-oriented nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in accordance with the philosophy and policies of St. Mary's Medical Center. The staff nurse utilizes principles of the nursing process and coordinates clinically related activities to provide for the effective delivery of healthcare. Responsible to supervise the care given by the Licensed Vocational Nurses Licensed Psychiatric Technicians. Hospital/Psychiatric Attendants and other working under his/her direction. Applies Dingity Health Core Values to the performance of every job duty. These Values include Dignity Collaboration Justice Stewardship and Excellence.

  • Cares for patients in MedSurg/Ortho Unit or other areas of the medical center as necessary.
  • Assesses all systems as indicated throughout the shift and informs physician of significant changes.
  • Documents clearly and legibly all findings in the clinical record.
  • Delivers care utilizing scientific principles.
  • Follows established clinical policies, procedures, and protocols for practice including but not limited to medication administration, IV and blood therapy. Universal Body substance precautions.
  • Recognizes signs and symptoms of cardiac or respiratory distress or other impending crisis; initiates emergency action, directs others and summons assistance.
  • Identifies actual or potential problems amendable to nursing intervention, and enters these on the Patient Care Plan along with specific goals and interventions. Includes patient and family in plan of care.
  • Provides teaching to patient / family as need is identified and documents same.
  • Uses computerized clinical information system effectively.
  • Assists with orientation of new staff, registry, etc. by serving as a buddy/preceptor.
  • Actively participates in Nursing Quality Improvement activities.
  • Works in collaboration with all members of the healthcare team in providing care, including, discharge planning.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • One year of acute care clinical experience as a Registered Nurse preferred, and have clinical competence relevant to the patient care area.
  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Valid California RN license
  • CT CPRBLS - AHA

Pay Range

$ $87.35 /hour
