Nature of Work:

Performs skilled work in the operation of complex construction/maintenance equipment (see attachment C). An employee in this class is responsible for performing tasks of more than average difficulty involving the safe operation and routine maintenance of assigned equipment. Tasks at times are performed under hazardous conditions and employees are expected to be particularly alert and careful. Under general supervision, employees are required to exercise initiative and independent judgment in completing assigned tasks and work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion by observation and through results obtained.

STORMWATER - VACTOR TRUCK: Performs tasks of more than average difficulty involving the safe operation and routine maintenance of assigned equipment. The employee will perform semiskilled work in maintenance of the Stormwater collection system and serve as a lead in the operation of the Vactor truck and/or Tanker Truck. Tasks at times are performed under hazardous conditions and employees are expected to be particularly alert and careful. Under general supervision, employees are required to exercise initiative and independent judgment in completing assigned tasks and work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion by observation and through results obtained. Time to time the employee with be required to assists the CCTV crew cleaning Stormwater mains lines in preparation for inspections, also the employee will be required to assist on Stormwater backups, stormwater overflows. Lastly, the employee maybe required to work at night and will be required to work in adverse weather conditions.

Regular Hours are 7 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. but are subject to change based on division needs and urgent work situations. Will be on a rotating, On-Call list for standby duty.

Minimum Requirements

STORMWATER - VACTOR TRUCK: Ability to read, write and follow instructions, plus two (2) years experience in the operation of assigned equipment; or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience. Florida Commercial Driver's License Class A, or B, required prior to employment depending on equipment assigned to position. Some positions may require a tanker endorsement permit prior to employment.

Positions in Streets & Drainage Division require Aquatic, Right of Way, and restricted Pesticide License within twelve (12) months of employment depending on area of assignment.

FLORIDA COMMERCIAL DRIVER LICENSE NUMBER (CLASS B MINIMUM) WITH TANKER ENDORSEMENT OR EQUIVALENT FROM ANOTHER STATE MUST BE SUBMITTED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW.

  • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
  • Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
