The Role:The Research Associate 1, SOM is responsible for conducting laboratory experiments, interpreting research protocols, publishing results, staying updated on research findings, maintaining mouse colonies, analyzing organs and cells, handling cell lines, conducting molecular biology experiments, preparing cells, operating lab equipment, and more.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures
  • Participates in the publication of significant results
  • Maintains an overview of relevant research findings
  • Ensures research is undertaken according to good practice
  • Keeps updated on developments in research
  • Organizes and maintains mouse colonies
  • Collects, processes, and analyzes mouse organs and cells
  • Maintains sterile cell lines and cultures
  • Performs molecular biology experiments
  • Prepares cells for flow cytometry and analysis
  • Operates lab equipment
  • Performs statistical analysis of results
  • Adheres to University policies and procedures

CORE QUALIFICATIONS:Education: Bachelor's Degree in relevant fieldCertification and Licensing: Not ApplicableExperience: No prior experience requiredKnowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure

Department Specific Functions:This full-time Research Associate 1, SOM role is in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Miller School of Medicine. Responsibilities include supporting research on autoimmune disease and cancer through mouse experiments, maintaining lab colonies, analyzing samples, and supporting ongoing research.
