AbbVie is seeking a Principal Research Scientist I to conduct process research and development of small molecules from pre-clinical through early clinical phases.

Key Responsibilities:

We seek a highly motivated scientist, with a proven track record of accomplishment in the biopharmaceutical industry, to work in a cross-functional team environment. The qualified candidate will deliver results in a team-oriented setting.The successful candidate will be responsible for setting project strategies, defining project responsibilities and timelines, providing leadership in a matrixed team setting and developing robust processes for cGMP manufacturing of AbbVies small molecule and/or antibody-drug conjugate candidates.The successful candidate will conceive of and develop synthetic routes for preclinical (GLP tox) and first in human (FIH) clinical deliveries, develop manufacturing processes, demonstrate processes in the API Pilot Plant, and establish appropriate control strategies.The position involves multi-disciplinary interactions with organic chemists, analytical chemists, engineers, solid state scientists, drug product development, program management, external partners, etc. The selected candidate will collaborate with Discovery Teams, Development Sciences Core Teams, and Asset Strategy Teams to advance preclinical and clinical candidates. It is expected that the candidate will utilize their expertise across CMC disciplines to generate collaborations with drug product development and regulatory affairs to further program goals.The ideal candidate will have strong verbal and written communication skills, and will serve as the lead author on development reports and as a key contributor to regulatory filings.
Qualifications
PhD in Chemistry with 6+ years of relevant experience or MS in Chemistry with 12+ years of relevant experience or BS in chemistry with 14+ years of relevant experience. Candidates with less experience may be considered for other opportunities.Proven scientific leadership; strong interpersonal and communication skills for facilitating collaborations and a demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional process development teams.The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of modern organic chemistry and mechanistic theory, control strategy development and regulatory starting material strategies. An understanding of global regulatory expectations and experience with authoring development reports and regulatory filings is highly desirable.Demonstrates creative 'out of the box' thinking to solve difficult technical problems and champion new strategies/technologies to achieve project goals.*Candidates are encouraged to include a research summary with CV.
