Position Summary:

The School Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) assesses, diagnoses, and treats students with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders. The SLP works collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other educational professionals to develop and implement individualized treatment programs, ensuring that students receive the necessary support to succeed academically and socially.


Key Responsibilities:

Assessment and Diagnosis:

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations to identify speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders in students.
  • Utilize standardized tests, observational checklists, and other diagnostic tools to assess communication skills.
  • Interpret assessment results and develop detailed reports, including recommendations for interventions and services.

Intervention and Treatment:

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with identified speech and language needs.
  • Provide direct therapy services to students in individual and group settings.
  • Adapt and modify therapeutic approaches based on student progress and changing needs.

Collaboration and Consultation:

  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other school staff to support students' communication needs in the classroom.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Provide training and support to teachers and staff on strategies to enhance communication skills within the classroom.

Documentation and Compliance:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student assessments, progress notes, and treatment plans.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district regulations regarding special education and related services.
  • Prepare and submit required reports and documentation in a timely manner.

Professional Development:

  • Stay current with best practices, research, and developments in the field of speech-language pathology.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities and attend relevant workshops and conferences.
  • Maintain licensure and certification requirements as mandated by state and professional organizations.

Prevention and Education:

  • Develop and implement programs to prevent communication disorders in the school setting.
  • Educate students, staff, and parents about speech and language development and disorders.
  • Promote awareness of speech-language services and resources available within the school and community.


Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.

Certification:

  • Valid California state licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred.

Experience:

  • Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
  • Experience with diverse populations and a range of speech and language disorders.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of speech and language assessment tools and therapeutic techniques.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
  • Proficiency in using technology for documentation and therapy purposes.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position with standard school hours.
  • May require traveling between schools within the district.
  • Participation in school events, meetings, and professional development activities beyond regular school hours may be required.
