JOB TITLE: Technical Writer


DEPARTMENT: R&D


REPORTS TO: Technical Communications Manager


LOCATION: Houston, Texas (HYBRID ROLE)



POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Technical Writer will be responsible for the creation, maintenance, and organization of technical documentation and supporting product literature for new and existing product lines and services. The Technical Writer will work cross-functionally to support customers and internal stakeholders with accurate and up to date product information in the form of written materials, illustrations, and digital records.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Collaborate with Engineering, Marketing, and Product Management in the development of labels, instruction manuals, and technical data sheets for new and existing product lines;
  • Perform instruction manual and label edits for product changes, including management of change process;
  • Work cross-functionally to develop diagrams, illustrations, and other visual tools to clearly communicate product safety and use information;
  • Understand and maintain a working knowledge of industry regulations and safety standards;
  • Analyze product compliance with labelling and instruction requirements according to applicable industry standards;
  • Ensure all required product information is accurately loaded and maintained within Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software and related systems;
  • Assist in the preparation of technical data sheets for new and existing products through the development of technical writing or graphic support;
  • Manage revisions of product instructions and labelling while interacting with multiple teams inside of the organization;
  • Create website content for products, services, and technical subjects;
  • Contribute technical expertise and content for new product releases, blogs, and social media posts;
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3 or more years of experience;
  • Associates degree in Technical Communications or related field;
  • Strong technical writing skills;
  • Strong attention to detail, problem solving, and research abilities;
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to simplify technical concepts for end users;
  • Fluency in the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically In Design, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, and Outlook are a must;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal with a variety of people or/and multicultural teams;
  • Must have a positive attitude with strong interpersonal and analytical skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize based on project demands.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communications or related field;
  • Experience working in a manufacturing organization;
  • Working knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning systems;
  • Experience with regulated and compliance driven product lines;
  • Experience working in the fall protection or safety products industry preferred, but not required.
