Ideal Builders is a growing commercial construction firm that focuses on creating top-tier projects in the greater Madison area while fostering partnerships and relationships within the community.


We are currently looking for a construction estimator or project manager interested in transitioning solely to construction estimating. The ideal candidate should have the knowledge and confidence to effectively engage with design professionals, subcontractors, and clients. They should also possess strong problem-solving skills and be capable of managing multiple deadlines.

The responsibilities for this position include:

  • Analyzing requirement documents and project plans to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project
  • Collaborating with the team to create conceptual estimates with minimal information
  • Creating a weekly bid calendar and ensuring timely completion of estimates
  • Participating in pre-construction meetings with project management staff
  • Attending bid meetings, developing bid strategies, and executing them
  • Compiling and distributing bid packages
  • Performing quantity surveys of construction documents
  • Creating estimates in Excel
  • Estimating self-performed work
  • Obtaining budgeting and bids for materials
  • Obtaining budgeting and bids from subcontractors
  • Utilizing bid data to prepare detailed bid comparisons
  • Producing owner deliverables when required
  • Reviewing estimates and revisions for completeness and accuracy
  • Working with project managers to collect and categorize productivity and cost history information
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with subcontractors and suppliers


Required education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of demonstrated success in estimating within the commercial building construction field
  • Experience with Procore or similar estimating software
  • Preferred experience in design-build and conceptual estimating
  • Sound understanding of construction estimating concepts
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting plans and specifications
  • Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills
  • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional time management abilities
