Founded in 1994, Hovde Capital Advisors identifies unique and opportune investments by utilizing its principals’ significant prior experience as owners, operator, and investors in the financial services and real-estate sectors. Our comprehensive investment management employs a sector-specific, deep-value, long/short strategy and evaluates companies in every subsector of the financial services space utilizing a combination top-down and bottom-up approach. Since 2014, Hovde Capital Advisors has operated in a family office structure with a single head Portfolio Manager. Although the fund continues to benefit from its significant experience in the financial services space, it has diversified into the energy, industrials, consumer, fintech, and technology spaces with a focus on domestic equities. We are a small team with a head PM, an assistant PM, one investment associate, and a few analysts.
Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for an Investment Analyst at Hovde Capital Advisors in Madison, WI. In this role, analysts will originate idiosyncratic ideas, conduct traditional deep fundamental research, generate price targets, and identify key investment themes across industries.The Investment Analyst will also be responsible for manging news flow, including macroeconomic and industry/company specific news on assigned coverage, monitoring trading and executing trades, reporting on quarterly earnings for assigned coverage. Generating investment ideas includes screening, conducting financial analysis, creating financial models, performing industry and market research, and hosting calls with management teams, IR, and industry participants.
We prefer candidates currently living in the Midwest region of U.S. for relocation purposes. This is a full-time in-office position. Please do not apply if you currently live more than 600 miles from Chicago, IL.
Qualifications
Required
- Foundational equities fundamental investment research process
- Comprehensive understanding of GAAP accounting and three statement financial models
- Strong attention to detail and critical thinking
- Excellent quantitative and qualitative analysis abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling software
- Familiarity with S&P Capital IQ, Factset, Bloomberg, or other equities oriented data provider
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, physics, history, philosophy, or related fields of study
- Passion for public equities market investing
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to consume, distill large quantities of information and develop insights from vast sources of information, including research reports, macroeconomic news, industry news, daily news publications, company press releases, etc.
Preferred
- Equity research experience covering the financials sector, specifically banks
- Progress towards CFA designation
