Job Overview:

Develop products from concept to launch. As a Product Developer, you'll use and grow your skills and knowledge of products and processes to bring innovative designs to completion. Work with cross functional teams to ensure final product meets customer needs, quality standards, and business goals. Your focus will be to develop quality, on-time, cost-efficient products that are an accurate reflection of each brand’s positions as industry leaders.


The position reports to the Product Development Manager and is a hybrid position working 3 days at our Irvine, CA headquarters and 2 days from home.


Essential Functions of this Role:

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Create and maintain comprehensive spec packages that meet the product’s goals for performance, innovation, image, function, and commercial viability. Deliver tech packages to vendors within the development calendar time frame.
  • Receive and review product samples. Present samples to the design and merchandise teams for review along with costing.
  • Work as part of the Product Team made up of the Product Designer and Merchandiser to meet design’s intent and sample deadlines.
  • Together with your lead you will work in the initial development phase to ensure that the vendor is accomplishing the originally intended design and details.
  • Participate in fittings with technical design, merchandiser, and design team to communicate comments to our vendors.
  • Maintain and source materials and trims for each specific product being developed appropriate for each product’s end use.
  • Have knowledge of both knits and woven fabrication.
  • Assist Senior Developer and Managers in various tasks including lab dip approvals and packaging requirements for each product.
  • Maintain clear documentation of your portion of the product process and make sure this documentation is readily available to others.
  • You will monitor and track to full accountability, the complete development process with your vendors and suppliers. You will notify other appropriate departments of critical information that will affect their areas.
  • Potentially travel to foreign countries to visit factories and aid with development and production issues.
  • You will attend appropriate trade shows and meet with vendors to research trends in materials, color, trims, and manufacturing.


Competencies:

  • Accurately create all pages of a spec package including Bill of Materials and construction.
  • Thorough knowledge of Windows platform with an emphasis on Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of PLM a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to think on a conceptual level, with confident decision-making skills and good use of judgment.
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Knowledge of fit and construction
  • A deeply enthusiastic attitude towards the Action Sports industries
  • A self-starter, able to execute based on company priorities and multiple project timelines

Work Environment:

  • This job requires employees to be in the corporate offices in Irvine CA, 3 days per week. Available online when working remotely. Available to travel International


Physical Demands:

  • May be required to work more than 8 hours during a workday
  • Sitting for long periods of time
  • Significant manual dexterity for keying in data for long periods of time


Expected Hours of Work:

  • May be required to work more than 8 hours during a workday.


Travel:

  • Domestic and International travel for vendor visits


Required Education, Experience and Skills:

  • College Degree in Apparel Design or related course of study or
  • Minimum 3 years of product development related experience.
  • Centric PLM experience a plus but not mandatory
  • Ability to use discretion and independent judgment to meet objectives within set timelines.
  • Thorough knowledge of Windows platform with an emphasis on Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of costing and negotiation, forecasting, manufacturing, sewing assembly, materials, construction techniques and color matching
  • Work as part of a team and with a diverse group of people and projects.
